RIC FLAIR'S CAREER ON THE LINE: 1/19 SMACKDOWN/ECW RESULTS FROM STATE COLLEGE, PA

By Barb C. on 2008-01-20 09:23:36

I just got back from the Smackdown/ECW house show in State College, PA and I have to admit, it was a fun show. The top of the Bryce Jordon Center was curtained off and there were many open sections in the seating. By my estimate there were 4000 - 5000 in attendance, by no means a sell-out but a very vocal crowd. This much smaller crowd was louder and more into the matches than the Pittsburgh crowd at Armageddon.

First Match was Kane vs. Big Daddy V, with Matt Striker. Kane is the winner choke slamming both Big Daddy V and Striker.

Match two saw the Tag Team Champs Miz and Morrison vs. Jimmy Wang Yang and Shannon Moore. There were lots of spots in this match and Miz and Morrison really playing to the crowd and the crowd ate it up. Miz and Morrison are the winners.

Match three was Kelly Kelly vs. Victoria. Kelly Kelly had a wardrobe malfunction early in the match and she had to keep adjusting her top after each move. Kelly Kelly was the winner.

Match four was Elijah Burke vs. Tommy Dreamer. Lots of people were behind Tommy and really hating on Burke. The winner was Elijah Burke.

Match five was Deuce vs. Kofi Kingston and the crowd was just not really into the match. The winner was Kofi Kingston.

Match six was Sheldon Benjamin vs. CM Punk. Lots of people rooting and chanting for Punk. The winner was CM Punk.

Next there was a brief intermission.

Match seven was Mark Henry vs. Ric Flair. Flair was super over with the crowd and did several WOOOOOOO's with them before starting his match. Flair wins by count out.

Match eight was Khali vs. Finlay with Hornswoggle. Hornswoggle was over with the crowd, with several of the younger kids wearing the Irish bowl hats. The match itself was pretty boring but Hornswoggle kept it entertaining. The winner was Finlay. During the match, Finlay and Khali hit the rail and pushed it into a little boy who ended up crying, not because he was hurt but because he was scared. At the end of the match Finlay went over and lifted the boy into the ring and him, the boy, and Hornswoggle celebrated. It was a nice touch for Finlay.

Match nine was the main event with Batista vs. Edge. Edge played the scared heel and didn't get in the ring to start the match for several minutes. At one point, Edge left the ring and was going to get counted out and Teddy Long came out and made the match a no disqualification match. The Edgeheads interfered and Edge is the winner. Batista stayed in the ring and talked to the crowd after Edge made his exit.

Biggest surprise of the night is there was not one "WE ARE, PENN STATE" chant.

Biggest pops:

Ric Flair
Batista
Hornswoggle

Biggest Heat:

Edge
Miz and Morrison
Elijah Burke
