As PWInsider.com exclusively broke this past Monday, WWE’s Executive Director - Creative Writing & Talent (CWT) Bruce Prichard is expected to retire from that position at Wrestlemania 43 and depart his full-time position for the company. As we noted, the expectation is that Prichard will remain connected to the company as a consultant, working from his home in Texas.
The natural question that has been asked is who would be tapped to replace Prichard in his position. PWInsider.com can exclusively confirm that WWE is planning to promote from within and according to multiple sources, the plan is for the current head of WWE NXT and Senior Vice President of Talent Development and Creative, WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels to essentially step into Prichard’s current role.
Michaels, 61, is a former WWE Champion and considered one of the company’s greatest in-ring performers ever with a number of classic Wrestlemania performances under his belt. He officially retired from the ring in 2010, returning only for one bout at a WWE PPV in Saudi Arabia in 2018.
Michaels, who is extremely close with WWE CCO Paul Levesque, stepped into his WWE NXT duties in September 2021.
We are told that this succession plan has been in place for some time and that Michaels will start to prepare for the Prichard role in the months ahead.
