TNA'S BLESSING AND CURSE, BOWENS-AEW, WHY WWE CAN'T JUST CANCEL CROWN JEWEL AND LET INSURANCE COVER AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2026-10-29 10:00:00

Any update on Anthony Bowens? His profile is still on the AEW roster page so is it possible he's resigned?

We never reported he was gone from the company.  To the best of my knowledge, he's still there.

All of this talk of moving Crown Jewel got me thinking. Obviously, it's monstrously stupid to keep going ahead with the show in Saudi, but clearly the reason is financial. On that note, however, shouldn't a business like WWE have suitable insurance in place for situations like this, where outside circumstances force them to cancel a lucrative show? Wouldn't that offset, if not cover entirely, the lost revenue? If such a policy isn't in place, why isn't it?

That's not how insurance works.  WWE can't just cancel a show and claim damages.  Assuming they have an insurance policy that would cover their massive losses, I would assume it could only be triggered in the event of a cancellation beyond their control - an act of God, perhaps The United States government preventing them from traveling there, Saudi Arabia canceling the show, etc - something of that type.  Again, this is all my speculation, but from my time working in the entertainment realm, that's pretty much my understanding of how such a policy would work.

Can you explain to me what exactly is the brand identity for TNA?  It's like the goofball cousin to WWE's little brother NXT at this point?

I think the identity is what it is in actuality - the company a lot of people go through on their attempt to find themselves and head elsewhere.  Unless they get a massve cash infusion and start signing talents to guarantees that will keep talents there, it's not going to change in the near future.  There's a lot of people working their asses off to be seen, and at some point, they'll get offers to go elsewhere.  From AJ Styles to Josh Alexander, that has been a big part of TNA's legacy, that they are the first national stage certain talents are seen on.  It's a blessing and a curse.

The site has had a banner week with breaking news (Bruce Prichard, Crown Jewel, Stephanie Vaquer, new WWE signings, etc.) so congratulations on that, but as someone who sadly is terminally online due to my health not allowing me to be as active as I once was due to my age, it was amazing to me to watch countless websites, Twitter accounts, Facebook groups, etc.  all suddenly have reporting on your stories, many without citing you and some changing the context to add additional information you never reported.  My question is how are you not losing it like Michael Douglas in that old movie Falling Down and wanting to kill them?

I try not to pay attention to the things you just pointed out.  My hope is that the work ethic and the quality and credibility of what we do will bring us repeat supporters and Elite subscribers so that we can keep doing the work we do here.  It sucks there's others taking advantage of my work, but that's the sad reality we live in.  If you don't like it, please subscribe to the Elite site by clicking here as your way to tell us you like what we do and you don't want to read second hand bootleg versions of our work.    Most importantly, I hope your health gets better.  That's far more important than anything else.  Hang in there and thank you for the compliment.

Wasn't Corporal Kirshner a Rambo gimmick? I remember vignettes with him doing military training and wearing a red headband as part of his ring gear. If that's not a Rambo gimmick, I don't know what is.

I can see your point, but I always saw him as a Sgt. Slaughter replacement, someone derivative of the character he followed.

I saw online that Super7 was soliciting AEW action figures for next year.  I thought Jazwares had the license?

It would appear the license with Jazwares is closing out and Super7, based on the solicitations you included, are taking over the toy license sometime next year.  I'm a big fan of their Godzilla Reaction toy line, so I'm curious to see what they do with AEW.  Jazwares did an incredible job when they had the license.  I'm a massive fan of Jeremy Padawer from Jazwares personally.
