STREETFIGHTER NOTES, COYOTE TOPPLES SUPERGIRL AND MORE WRESTLERS IN MOVIES NOTES

According to Box Office Mojo, Street Fighter featuring Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns  and Hirooki Goto brought in $51 million worldwide.  We are told the film lands with a cliffhanger designed to continue to story, so we'll see if they get there financially.  The film was the top movie at the box office here in The United States following a massive maarketing campaign.  It is set in the 1990s and we are told that a number of songs featured were songs that the original ECW used.  Cody pretty much steals the show as Guile in his supporting role and is lined up to return in the potential sequel.  We are told Roman plays one of the top villains, Akuma, and comes off like he's cutting angry Roman promos.  He would also be in line to return based on the cliffhanger, we are told.  Goto is in one fight scene set in a bathing spa and is then never seen again.

In an interesting piece of news, John Cena's Looney Toons live action-animation hybrid film Coyote vs. Acme has now hit over $126 million worldwide.    That places it in the area of the heavily hyped Supergirl film over the summer, which closed in that area at the box office and was considered a flop.  Pretty amazing for Coyote to do as well or better on a much smaller advertising budget, especially given the David Zaslav-run WBD wanted to delete the film for a tax writeoff.

Cena's Matchbox the Movie was the #1 film streaming on AppleTV for the week its premiered.  The film was a co-production of Mattel Studios and Skydance Media based on the classic toy cars.

Mosquito Bowl, featuring former WWE personality Pat McAfee will hit theaters on 10/30.  It's a sports drama based on the real life events of a famous, impromptu American football game played on Christmas Eve in 1944 on Guadalcanal playdd by Marines and former football players who were fighting in World War II.

Netflix's Guarding Stars film, featuring CM Punk, will premiere on 11/18.

The Disney animated film Hexed will feature voice roles for Drew McIntyre and Pat McAfee.  It will hit theaters on 11/27.  McIntyre will also be featured in the forthcoming Highlander and The Last Druid films.

Violent Night 2 with MJF will be released theatrically on 12/4.  He will also be seen in the upcoming independent film The Floaters.

Jumani - Open World with The Rock opens on Christmas Day in theaters.  The Rock will also be seen in the forthcoming Fast Forever, the latest Fast & Furious film, reprising his role as Luke Hobbs.  He's currently filming Lizard Music, the role that he dropped all the weight for.  The plot - "A young boy stumbles upon a secret late-night television broadcast of human-sized, sentient lizards playing otherworldly music, leading him into a surreal adventure to find their hidden island society."

There is still no official domestic release date theatrically for Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo, which features Liv Morgan.  It hits theaters in Japan on 10/23 but has been seen at several film festivals to mixed reviews.
