I wanted to ask specifically about booking and where the Paul Levesque era stands. Is it possible that the current lacklustre booking comes less from Levesque and his team not doing a great job and more from having more hands/voices meddling in the process? When Vince was the boss, the buck and the booking stopped with him; as such, we could blame him when things were bad and praise him when they were firing on all cylinders. The same can't be said with this current regime; Levesque isn't the boss; he's an employee, and I think it's become fairly clear that the higher-ups at TKO may interfere or put pressure on creative to go a certain way or add in guests, etc, that may not make sense. I'm not suggesting he and his team can't do better, but when there's a lot more top-down pressure and expectation, does the job of creative become even harder?
Two things can be true at once. On the one hand, Levesque does have to deal with things foisted on him from the top, no doubt. However, the foisters are only pushing things on him that deal with the top of the card acts, and not in any great volume. Even if they were pushing more, it doesn’t forgive the lackluster booking that he is giving us with the rest of the card. Just look at when he first took over as booker. Vince had largely put together a dull SummerSlam card and Levesque immediately made it better. We haven’t seen that guy in quite some time.
What are your thoughts of the WWE Championship bouncing around so much? Approve or disapprove and why.
In general, I prefer longer Title reigns because they mean more to me and definitely resonate more when the belt changes hands. With that said, there are times when I am fine with a few quick changes. I will wait and see where Sami Zayn stands after his Title reign to weigh in on that. Obviously on Smackdown there are a lot of legitimate men that can be champion and thus don’t need the belt.
Seriously, we had blood in big matches in the Golden Era. At one point, we thought WWE moving to Netflix would allow them to be edgier. Why is Netflix pixelating blood on Raw?
Probably because they feel like how mainstream sports feel, diseases have changed the way at least some people view blood. Netflix probably knows a lot of their viewers don’t want to see bloody wrestlers. Time changes since the Golden Era.
Why doesn't AEW just go to 3 hours or advertise 2.5 hours as it seems like every show is 2.5 hours lately?
To me three hours is too long for a wrestling show. I don’t want to see that. While on the one hand I do like to know how long a show will run, they do add an element of unpredictability when you don’t know that the main event will be ending in a minute because it’s almost 10 o’clock. I like that element.
“WWE filed a trademark on 8/14 for a new character named "Andi Summers”. Will he be teaming with Sting?
The answer can be found in a message in a bottle.
