THE INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE THAT IS UP FOR AUCTION, GUNTHER VS. DANHAUSEN, SABU, HBK WEARING NWO SHIRT DURING MONDAY NIGHT RAW AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2026-10-08 10:00:00

The WWF Intercontinental belt that is up for auction - is that legit?  If it is, what if WWE wants it back?

It is 100% legitimate.  It remained in WWE's archives until they wanted to acquire the original IC belt Pat Patterson held.  They traded the 1980s belt in order to gain possession of the Patterson belt.  I guess if they want it back, they can bid on it!

If Gunther doesn’t completely destroy Danhausen what’s the point?

It says he was cursed?

Since his passing, I've seen a lot of the crazy matches Sabu has been in, especially in Japan, but I don't recall ever seeing or hearing about him being in a King of the Deathmatches Tournament. Has Sabu ever competed in any kind of Deathmatch Tournament?  If so, can you point me to where I can view this?

To the best of my knowledge, Sabu never competed in a Death Match tournament, although he's had his share of barbed wire and fire matches in lots of places, including ECW and FMW - but never in a tournament setting.

I remember a few professional photos of Shawn Michaels wearing an nWo shirt at what I believe was a WWF photo shoot were leaked via the internet. Was WWF planning an angle, or just trying to stir up discussion?

I recall the photo in question, but it was a photo that was taken of Michaels by an independent photographer, not something that WWE shot or leaked.  It was a big deal among fans at the time because of how hot the WWF vs. WCW rivalry was at the time, but there was never anything more to it than what it was.  The first place I recall seeing the photo was in the late Georgie Makropoulos' Wrestling Chatterbox newsletter.

I am watching ECW in order and I am up to the build for Barely Legal, the first PPV (which by the way, I can't even search for on Facebook due to concerns over the name!) - Why did they include a match from a Japanese promotion on the show? If it was ECW's first PPV shouldn't it have showcased ECW stars and not stars from another organization?

ECW owner Paul Heyman decided to include the 6 man match from Michinoku Pro Wrestling as a way of showing new fans just how different ECW was from everything else in pro wrestling at the time.  ECW meshed hardcore brawling, great technical work, blood and guts, and high flying together under one roof so Heyman wanted a little bit of everything on the first PPV.  The fact of the matter was, ECW brought in workers from all over the world and it made sense to include the bout, which was amazing and certainly within the realm of how ECW had always presented themselves.  It remains of my favorite parts of that show.
