I AM ALS announced that the Act for ALS, which AEW's Tanea "Rebel" Brooks has been campaigning for, has officially passed and will be signed into law in the United States:
WE DID IT! With just 24 hours left until the law expired, the Senate passed the ACT for ALS even after the House went home early. And now it’s on the way to the President’s desk for signature—because of YOUR work. Our community-powered movement led the way on this reauthorization from the start.
What did it take to get here?
We identified a major gap for people living with ALS and co-authored the legislation to address the gap in 2021.
We monitored the law’s implementation and success, while advocating for full funding every year.
Last year we built and deployed a multi-pronged advocacy and visibility campaign.
We developed and strengthened relationships with Congressional champions.
We leaned on our incredible grassroots army of volunteer leaders from across the country and partnered with other organizations, celebrity ambassadors, media, researchers, and government affairs experts.
Alongside each one of you, we held 430+ of meetings and calls and sent more than 95,000 emails to members of Congress this year alone.
In the final weeks before expiration, we delivered more than 20,100 petition signatures to Congressional leaders.
We never let up, and we left nothing on the table. The I AM ALS community paved the way for this victory... And it’s showing the world that hope and progress are possible.
Because we’re laser-focused on a cure, our work is never done. We will continue to champion ACT for ALS funding year after year, and the I AM ALS community is building a plan for “the next big thing” to continue to push for progress. More on this soon.
