House of Glory was back in the Logan Square Auditorium in Chicago for "Windy City Warfare", live on Youtube.
Sam Leterna handled ring announcing. She was great.
Amazing Red retained the Crown Jewel title in defense over Legacy Pro (HoG's developmental/sister promotion) champion "The Nouveau Narcissus" Angel Jacquez (with Prof. Hillary P. Wisdom) to open the show. Nice match. Jacquez is young and improving. He looked very competitive with the legendary Red. There was a moment Red bumped a kid on a dive into the crowd but he was okay and got a big chant after the match.
"The Blackheart" Lio Rush defeated Chicago favorite Gringo Loco to retain the Cruiserweight title.
JJ Doze won a 6-way Scramble match over young stars Johnny Rambeau, Frankie Forearms, Joe Geha, Vic Vendetta, and the powerful Bruss Hamilton. All action match, as expected. Doze pinned Rambeau with a top rope double stomp. He actually missed it on the first attempt but recovered very quickly and hit it square on the second. This is Doze's second Scramble win. Hamilton, Rambeau and Vendetta were standouts.
Former WWE EVOLVE champion Aaron Rourke made his HoG debut. He was scheduled to face HoG Heavyweight champion Joey Silver but Silver had travel issues. Rourke did some good heel crowd work. His substitute opponent was AEW star HOOK. Rourke carried this match and made it entertaining with his work and crowd interaction. He got caught in a rear naked choke, forcing a submission but he earned a bonus for this performance.
Former TNA, WWE and ROH World tag champions the Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley, Chris Sabin) made their HoG return, beating VERY promising tag team, the Skywalkers (HoG mainstay prospects Raheem Royal, Jodi Aura) in the only tag match on the show. Very good match with the Guns having to overcome the Skywalkers' edge in youth, size and even athleticism to pull out the win. Royal did a beautiful moonsault off the venue's balcony onto a pile of folks. I noticed Sabin was able to not be in the pile so he was ready to go when they got back in the ring. Wily vet, that one.
Nikki Storm (the former Nikki Cross in WWE) also made a debut for HoG, in a losing effort in her challenge for the Women's title, held by Shotzi Blackheart. They had a good match in spots but were too insistent on doing stuff with Blackheart's Lio Rush doll. Then Rush himself showed up, distracting Storm, allowing Blackheart to get the win. Odd babyface behavior in an odd match.
In the main event, Major League Wrestling World Heavyweight champion (as well as World Series Wrestling World champion in Australia, Awesome Championship Wrestling champion among others) Killer Kross defeated HoG's top villain and former HoG Heavyweight champion "The Root of All Evil" Charles Mason. Good, physical bout. They were on the verge of being counted out when both brought the ref outside and politely but firmly let him know they weren't going for that. Mason dominated stretches of this bout and looked like the guy who has dominated House of Glory the past 2 yrs and could go toe to toe with the larger former WWE and TNA star. Mason knocks referee Nick Shin to the mat and tries to smother Kross with a plastic bag (Terry Funk would be proud but Standards and Practices appalled) but Kross, showing he's not an idiot, just rips the bag open, drags Mason up on the stage, setting off the pyro in his face. He then chokes out Mason for the win. Mason smiling while being choked out was creepy. Dude.
Kross was trying to talk to the audience when Mason came back out with a cord and choked Kross with it before running to the back. Kross delivers some words, promising this isn't over. I hope not. I think they could have something strong here.
Not a great show but a good one.
