We take a look back at Sami Zayn’s victory over CM Punk to become Smackdown World Champion.
Nick Aldis is in the ring and he welcomes everyone to Smackdown. He says some times you have to deal with people who rub you the wrong way. You need to be professional. Nick introduces Sami Zayn.
Sami asks Nick if the crowd booing him is funny. Sami says they will address that next. He says it must have hurt Nick to do that introduction to call him the champion. It feels good coming out of his mouth. He says he is a little surprised at the reaction from the crowd tonight. He means what he says and says what he means. Justice for Sami was not just about him, it was justice for all. Even the ones who are booing. Sami says he fights for you. This is justice for you. This is a symbol of hope for millions around the world. Justice has been served and this is what it looks like.
Sami says they are not used to a champion with a sense of morality. Justice is not the core tenet of his beliefs. He believes in equality. When you have these other top stars knocking on Nick’s door, he expects Nick to treat them the way Nick treated him. He says he expects road blocks put in front of them.
Johnny Gargano interrupts and he is joined by Candice LeRae.
Johnny says last week they had a deal that he was the first in line if Sami beat Punk. Johnny says he is here to collect.
Sami says there was never a deal, you were the one who said you were next.
Johnny says Sami made a promise.
Sami says he would take care of Johnny.
Johnny wants a title match tonight.
Nick tells Johnny that he does not know what is going on between them. Sami might be the champion but he does not make the matches.
Sami says it is not up to him.
Nick says you had a title match a few weeks ago. Nick says the man who was next in line is not here tonight. That man is CM Punk.
Kevin Owens’ music plays and he makes his way to the ring.
Kevin says if you are talking about people who deserve title matches, you are looking at him.
Candice says that Johnny is next.
Kevin gives Johnny a stunner.
Nick tells Kevin he does not make matches. He cannot reward bad behavior.
Kevin asks Nick if he is high. This idiot screwed up how many main events to get that title match last week?
Nick agrees.
Kevin brings up the Triple Threat that somehow went to a No Contest because of that idiot.
Nick agrees.
Kevin says this all started when Sami cost him his match in Toronto.
Nick agrees.
Kevin calls him an arrogant jackass and Nick agrees.
Sami says there is nothing to think about. Lat time he won, you threw in CM Punk at the ast minute. Is that what you are going to do again, as Sami grabs Nick’s jacket.
Nick tells Sami to let go of him. Nick says he is the one who makes the matches. He tells Sami he made his deicision easy tonight because Sami is defending the title against Kevin Owens tonight. Nick asks Sami if he can get past seven for this title reign.
While Sami argues with Nick by the stage, Randy Orton comes out for his match and he has some words for Sami.
Match Number One: Randy Orton versus Trick Williams versus Rey Fenix in a Money in the Bank Qualifying Match
Randy with a forearm to Rey. Randy and Trick lock up and Trick with a side head lock and shoulder tackle. Randy with a shoulder tackle of his own. Rey with punches and Randy with an Irish whip. Rey with a boot to Randy followed by some kicks. Randy goes shoulder first into the ring post when Rey moves. Rey sends Trick over the top rope to the floor. Rey with a cross body onto Trick on the floor.
Rey with a moonsault for a near fall. Trick with a pop up punch followed by a back hand slap. Trick sends Rey into the corner for the crowd participation boots. Trick clotheslines Rey over the top rope and Randy hits a back drop driver on Rey and then he does the same thing to Trick. Yackty gets in Randy’s face and Randy with a thumb to the eyes followed by a back drop driver.
Randy sends Rey back into the ring and he gets a near fall. Randy with a Garvin Stomp. Randy with a European uppercut in the corner and he punches Rey. Rey escapes and he punches Randy. Rey with a super kick for a near fall. Trick catches Rey on a springboard move and hits a uranage for a near fall. Randy kicks Trick and Trick avoids being sent into the turnbuckles. Trick with the crowd participation kicks. Trick gets Randy up but Randy escapes and Randy with a back elbow. Randy with a Garvin Stomp to Trick. Randy puts Trick on the turnbuckles and Randy punches Trick. Randy punches Rey off the apron and Randy sets for a superplex. Rey goes for a sunset flip power bomb on Randy while Randy hits a superplex. Rey with a frog splash on Randy for a near fall.
Rey with kicks to both men but Randy sends Rey into Trick. Rrey swings in the ropes and hits a back heel kick on Randy. Rey with a kick to Trick in the corner. Randy with a clothesline to each man and then ducks one from Ray. Randy with a power slam to both men. Randy sets for the IEDDT on Trick but Rey with a running kick from the ropes. Rey goes up top but Trick pushes Rey off the turnbuckles to the floor. Trick with a cyclone kick to Randy for a near fall.
Trick takes too much time and Rey with a rana for a near fll. Rey kicks Trick. Rey comes off the turnbuckles and Randy hits an RKO. Trick with a jumping knee to Randy and he gets the three count on Rey.
Winner: Trick Williams
Johnny and Candice are in the back and Sami says they are trying to do this to him again. Sami brings up what Nick said to Johnny. Sami says Johnny deserves it. He says Johnny deserves it and he will work on getting it for Johnny. Sami says he cannot lose the title after seven days. Sami says if he loses, will Johnny ever get another shot?
Johnny says he understands.
Sami says he’s got Johnny and they will talk later.
Tama Tonga says they won the titles. His family did that. He never needed Shinsuke. You needed him. When he refused, you brought in Kyoki. You should have left him in Japan because it is all on you.
Kyoki says something in Japanese and so does Nakamura. Nakamrua says you are confused You are not the hunter, you are the prey.
Flair asks Alexa if she is ready for her match. Flair asks Tatum what she is doing and Tatum has her special candles. Alexa says she knows they have her back but she needs to focus on her own. Tatum says her and Charlotte can bond because the tag titles are as good as theirs.
Match Number Two: Tama Tonga and Talla Tonga versus Shinsuke Nakamura and Kiyoki in a Non Title Match
Kyoki and Tama start things off but Kyoki wants Talla to start. Kyoki punches Talla on the apron and Tama grabs Kyoki’s hair. Kyoki knocks Talla off the apron and Tama hits Kyoki from behind. Kyoki with a drop kick to Tama and then he hits a running drop kick off the apron to both men. Talla sends Kyoki into the ringside barrier before Kyoki is sent back into the ring. Talla tags in and chops Kyoki.
Nakamura tags in and connects with forearms and then he chokes Talla in the corner. Nakamura with an enzuigiri and Nakamrua avoids an attack by Tama. Talla uses the distraction to clothesline Nakamura. Talla with an Irish whip and a splash into the corner. Talla with a running Samoan drop for a near fall. Tama tags bck in and Tama with a sliding clothesline. Talla tag in and Tama with a punch and Talla with a running boot for a near fall. Tama with a Cobra Clutch.
Tama with a forearm to Nakamura. Kyoki tags in and he hits a cross body or two. Kyoki goes for a rana but Tama blocks it. Tama with a chop and Kyoki wants more. Tam with another chop. Tama with more chops. Kyoki chops back. Talla tags in and Kyoki with a head scissors to Tama. Talla catches Kyoki and Kyoki escapes. Kyoki avoids a boot and hits a cdrop kick. Talla goes for a choke slam but Kyoki counters with a DDT. Kyoki goes up top and he hits a senton onto Talla and Tama. They send Tall back into the ring and Nakamura tags in.
Kyoki with a drop kick and Nakamura with a reverse exploder to Kyoki onto Talla for a near fall. Talla with an uppercut and he misses a splash. Nakamura with a kick to the back of the head. Nakamura with a flying boot off the turnbuckles for a near fall. Nakamura sets for Kinshasa but Tama pulls Kyoki off the apron. Nakamura with a sliding German to Tama and Haku hits Nakamura with his walking stick.
Winners: Kyoki and Shinsuke Nakamura (by disqualification)
After the match, Haku hits Nakamura with the stick. Talla choke slams Kyoki onto the apron and then they hit a high and low combination on Kyoki.
Cahty asks Kevin for his thoughts about tonight. Kevin says he had his first match in WWE against John Cena in this arena. Kevin says he beat John on that night. Kevin says he will beat Sami to become WWE Champion.
Finn Balor shows up to say hello and says that the is happy to see the stars align for someone. Finn points out that he is friends with Sami and he helped him win last week. Finn says he is coming for the winner and if he has to win Money in the Bank, he will do it.
We are back and Nick congratulates Chelsea on her win and that she deserves to be the champion.
Danhausen emerges and he says that Gunther is angry.
Tiffany says she is going to be in one of the qualifiers.
Nikki Bella shows up and Nikki tells Chelsea to get her name out of her mouth. Nikki says while you eeked out a victory, she dominated Paige. She says she does not need Money in the Bank because she is a legend. She says she is coming for the title.
We take a look back at when Cody could not pull the trigger against Randy Orton at Sunday Night’s Main Event.
Cody is with Michael Cole.
Cole says it has become a pattern about not being able to pull the trigger on Randy.
Cody says he doesn’t like the phrase but he can cite mercy but that is an excuse and he is not going to give excuses.
Cole mentions how people call Cody QB1 to represent the company, but the team is gone. Cole mentions the people in the ring with Cody when he ‘finished the story’ and how most of them have stabbed him in the back.
Cody says maybe he should have seen it coming and even beaten them to the punch. No matter who it is, everyone gets seduced by the biggest title in the game. Maybe he is naive to think that It would have gone differently. Cody says that is not the end of QB1 because that is not the only team. It is a large team, not just the people fighting for the title.
Cole mentions that Cody will be facing Randy again and he wants to know what will he do.
Cody says every week, no matter where it is, he is asked about his morality. Will he turn toward a darker path? Cody asks if anyone knows what he doesn’t know. All of this success has been the guy sitting in the seat. He has disrupted more than anyone but Mr. Heyman. He was uncompromised and that got him two Royal Rumbles, two wins over Brock Lesnar, a victory over Roman Reigns, and a win over John Cena. Cody says he beat Randy at Wrestlemania. He says he is amused that people think he has to change. He will not make the same decision that he did at Sunday Night’s Main Event when he faces Randy again.
Cathy is with Jade Cargill and B-Fab interrupts and they laugh at the idea of Tatum and Michin are next. Jade says her girls are the next in line for the tag titles. She is not going to let anyone take her spot in Money in the Bank.
Match Number Three: Jade Cargill versus Alexa Bliss versus Jacy Jayne in a Money in the Bank Qualifying Match
