A musical adaptation of the The Princess Bride will make its world premiere this summer at The Nederlander Theater in Chicago, running from 7/19/27 to 8/22/27, according to Playbill.com.
The musical, based on the fantasy book and subsequent beloved Rob Reiner film has been in development since 2019 and auditions taking place last year included the role of Fezzik, who was portrayed by WWE Hall of Famer Andre the Giant in the film.
The 2025 breakdown of the character noted, " Character is Male. 30s-40s. Any ethnicity. A true-blue gentle giant of surpassing strength and poetic soul. Simple but not simple-minded, slow but not stupid, devoted to his friends, with a gift for rhyme and a wit all his own. Has a bass, or bass-baritone vocal range."
Billy Crystal's experiences with Andre on the set of the film inspired Crystal's film My Giant.
The extremely talented Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, (Disney's Frozen) are writing the music for the show.
