Spotlight Match: DJ Powers vs Jay Lyon
Everyone hates DJ and everyone loves this circus lion we have opening the show tonight. DJ is having a hard time with this opponent so he starts trying to mess with Lyon’s mask to get some momentum started. Lyon with the comeback but Powers mucks with Jay’s mask again, hits a claymore to the side of the head and a top rope splash ends this one.
We open the show with a moment of silence for “The Butcher” Andy Williams. Just a terrible tragedy from this weekend.
Match 1: Dustin Waller vs A-Game Joseph Alexander
This could be a main event and it’s kicking off the main card! Welcome back, A-Game! They light each other up with chops early until Waller decides to poke the eyes for some cheap heat. They two know each other pretty well so we get a LOT of counters on counters as each man tries to each a good shot in. Dustin goes for the eyes again but Alexander grabs his hair in retaliation. A-Game dodges the lethal injection. GTS for two! Hard scramble at the end but Dusty hits that Lethal Injection for the three. Solid fast paced match!
Waller on the mic. He left Flyin’ Ryan O’Neill laying last week. Next week, he’ll be waiting for his challenge.
Up next, we have The Verdict, who are 2/3rd’s of the Von Erich Classic winners. Bryce & Vinny are out here with their trophy in full denim to sing “Celebration” at us. They rub everyone’s faces in the fact that WE WERE WRONG. They won. They won “clean”. And next on their list? The Wrestling Open Tag Team Championships! Star Struck’s music hits. Verdict thinks they are the best? Let’s have a match to prove it! Ref Gina hits the ring. Bryce says no, they aren’t ready to compete tonight. But then Star Struck makes fun of the absent Mark Sterling and Bryce loses his mind and accepts the match.
Match 2: The Verdict (Bryce Donovan & Vinny Scalise) vs Star Struck (Anthony Greene & Channing Thomas)
Vinny gets run over early as he complains how unfair this match he agreed to is. Bryce gets in there and Greene runs his over so hard that he loses his shoes. Vinny blindsides Greene and the tide turns. There’s also a whole thing happening when a student from the back keeps running out with gloves and kneepads and other wrestling things for the Verdict to put on as the match goes on. Bryce gets backed into a corner when he realizes his lack of footwear is hindering his ability to fight…so he smacks Ref Gina and gets DQ’d and gets OUT OF THERE.
Match 3: Kylie Alexa(c) vs Shannon LaVangie (for the Wrestling Open Women’s Championship)
Shannon is on a bit of a winning streak and she tries to end this thing quickly and shock Alexa. The champ traps Shannon in the ropes and stomps her into the apron. Harrrrrrd chops into the post thuds against Shannon’s chest. Back into the ring, Shannon coming back with a German and a yakuza kick. Air raids crash for two! They trade code red attempts before Kylie drops Shannon right into her knee. Alexa shocked at the kickout and takes her up top….Shannon slides out and powerbombs her! Shannon throwing bombs in the corner…she goes to put Kylie on the top but Alexa slides out, rolls her challenger up and secures the three with some legs on the rope for leverage. Shannon KNOWS she got robbed tonight.
Match 4: Devin Reno vs All Go Nelli
Nelli doesn’t get an entrance. He’s f***ed. At least, he has hair. Reno doesn’t like any of these chants and Nelli is actually getting solid offense in. A spring back stunner for two! Reno blocks a tornado ddt and hits a cool spinning slam for the win. All the time, Reno is talking right into the camera. He has eyes for Bear Bronson and the Wrestling Open Championship.
Reno on the mic. He wants Bear face to face so he can tell him WHEN he will be taking that title. Bronson out here with the belt. Reno says Bear has been a great champ. He loves that Bear loves his wife. He loves that Bear has something besides wrestling in his life. He loves that Bear will have something left when he takes that belt. Bear also appreciates Reno’s confidence and reminds him that he’s not just fighting a Bear…he’s fighting the will of everyone in the crowd. Bear says the title match is in two weeks…but would Reno like a warmup next week? Reno accepts…and Bronson reveals the opponent. It’s a man that Reno hasnt been able to beat…ICHIBAN!
Match 5: Anthony Vecchio & Bobby Casale vs Simply the Best (BRG & Oxx Adams)
BRG and Oxx attack while Bobby and Vecchio are in the apron and Vecchio is launched into the first row of chairs. He screams as it looks like something went bad with his ankle. Everyone swarms and gets him out of there while BRG & Oxx now have themselves a handicap match against the Bobbinator. Bobby takes a beating and suddenly Vecchio hobbles down to the ring. He’s making the save! NO! VECCHIO SUPERKICKS CASALE! BRG lays down and watches this with a smile on his face. Vecchio tells Oxx to finish it. Adams hits the sitout chokebomb for the three. Simply the Best laughs and leaves as Vecchio stares down the fallen body of Bobby Casale. The Shooter Boy is definitely sporting a new attitude now.
Main Event: Jermaine Marbury vs Nick Battee (w/ DJ Powers) (Time Out Match)
Ok, we did this in Worcester once. Each guys gets three Time Outs. Each guy can challenge a referee’s call once. Will this even the odds for Jermaine? Battee burns an early timeout when he’s getting beat up too much. That’s track. DJ Powers gets involved and Jermaine takes a timeout to chase him off unsuccessfully. Battee gets slammed and left for a top rope elbow…Battee calls timeout! Powers with a distraction and Battee tries a low blow during the timeout but has to settle for an eye rake. Battee tries to wipe out Marbury on the floor. Jermaine slides in right at the ten count. Ref Scott calls him safe. Battee challenges the call! Ref Scott reviews the play and stands by the call. Marbury crossed the plane of the rope before the ten count. He charges Battee with his final timeout for the unsuccessful/incorrect challenge. Marbury has two timeouts left…and Battee knows he’s in trouble so he tries to choke the life out of him. Marbury fires up and goes on offense! Marbury is about to wipe out Battee again but Powers interferes..Marbury call timeout and chases Powers to the back! They run in the other door and Marbury dives out at powers as we go back into play! Marbury with the juke and cutter! Batte distracts the ref as DJ clubs Marbury from behind! Batte with a skull crushing finale and a scissor kick for the three!
Before Battee and Powers can get out of there…BENNY THE BASKETBALL RETURNS AND BLOCKS THEIR EXIT. Marbury challenges the call! Scott sees the interference and overturns the pinfall….and DJ is ejected! Marbury with a huge dive to Powers and Battee! The ankle breaker to Battee and the cutter connects! Marbury gets the three to win the main event! But most importantly? Benny the Basketball is Back!!!!!
Denver Colorado is out here to talk about the upcoming “Great Divide”. He talks about how the last two title tournaments got messed up and Worcester ended up losing out on a promised title match. To prevent this happening again, Wrestling Open will be assigning 10 “ambassadors” for each show. Not much more info here…it’s definitely not the full on BRAND SPLIT that some were worried about but definitely some show specific talents.
