The Wrestling REVOLVER was back in one of their main venues, a sold-out Calumet Center at Montgomery County Fairgrounds in Dayton, Ohio for their biggest annual event: Cage Of Horrors 5.
Joe Dombrowski and Carmen Michaels worked commentary the entire show with Bork Torkelson, who might have been the third wheel on this bike.
AEW star Rocky Romero beat "All Attitude" Alan Angels and Gringo Loco in a good opener.
Rory Shield, new ally of REVOLVER Tag champions Tye or Die, made her WR debut in a losing effort to Steph de Lander. It was okay.
KillerGOAT ("Young GOAT" Myron Reed, Killer Kelly) kept up their winning ways, beating The Outbreak (Abel Booker, Jacksyn Crowley with Barnabas the Bizarre). The Outbreak have a great infected/living dead gimmick. They really commit to it. The Outbreak had some moments and good offense, but this was surprisingly one sided.
Jake Crist, Rich Swann and Trey Miguel dusted off the Oi4K (Ohio is 4 Killers) name to defeat Tye or Die (KJ Reynolds, Ryan Matthias, Amazanga with Shield) for the Wrestling REVOLVER Tag titles in a six-man match. Match of the night. This was Miguel's third match back since breaking his kneecap in April so again, as smartly used here as he was in a six man on Impact! Thursday night. Amazanga had probably his best performance to date, looking like a young monster, dominating the opposition for big chunks of the match and breaking out an impressive moonsault on Swann late. Shields got physically involved, which felt like gimmick infringement on Kayla Cassidy. The tag titles being on a six-man team is odd to me but...what are you gonna do? Tye or Die almost retained when Miguel accidentally hit the ref with a title belt. A second ref counted a fall for Oi4K but it was overturned by the official ref, disqualifying the challengers. Stamper restarted the match and made it No Disqualification, leading to a title change. Frankly that was some convoluted overbooking. I know Tye or Die got away with something similar before but the ref was well within his rights to dq Miguel who tried to illegally strike Reynolds with a title belt.
Damien Chambers won the Golden Ticket for the second time (grants the holder a title shot at a time and place of their choosing), winning a Scramble match over Latino's Most Wanted (Sabin Gauge, Koda Hernandez), Bigg Pound, Harley Rock (who is improving rapidly), Juni Underwood, Thomas Heim, Nathan Davis and big man-to-watch Troy Parker. It was entertaining. Insisted on a spot where the lead photographer hit a Canadian Destroyer on Chambers, which took me out of the match. Amounted to nothing as Chambers still got the win a couple minutes later, pinning Underwood. No, he didn't get any payback on the photographer. Sigh. Chambers won his previous Golden Ticket in 2023 but failed in his cash in.
TNA star BDE teamed with his friends and former WR tag champs Alpha Sig ("Big" Dick Meyers, KC Jacobs) and Madman Fulton (subbing for "Bulletproof" Steve Maclin) to win a Frat House Rules match (every pin attempt has to be backed by a shot and something about chugging beers and dizzy bats) over WR's top heel faction, the Algorithm (Joe Alonzo, Crash, Brent Oakley) and Josh Bishop. I'm never comfortable with the idea of even pretending to be working under the influence. Absolutely not a fan. They buried what could have been a really good 8 man beneath a ton of shenanigans. Fun note though: Oakley, who used to lead Alpha Sig, has still never won a Frat House Rules match.
In the main event, WR champion "The Southern Psycho" Mance Warner defended his championship against former champion "The Atrocity" Krule (Mads Krule Krugger from MLW) and "The Blood Fighter" Alex Colon in a Cage of Horrors match. The cage, as it is, is definitely different. Some cage segments are on the ring, some on the ringside barrier with barbed wire connecting it to the ring. It's a lot. The match was okay but plodding and much slower than I expected. A lot of blood and big bumps but no rhythm and far too deliberate a pace. I did find one door refusing to do the job hilarious. Very late into the match, Chambers cashes in his Golden Ticket and with help from Kayla Cassidy, pinned Colon to win his first Wrestling REVOLVER Heavyweight title, his first WR championship, period. Chambers brief appearance gave the match a shot in the arm but didn't save it.
A solid show that's much stronger in the first half than the second, where it was weighed down with bizarre booking and underwhelming action.
