WWE Made $136 Million Last Year Without Anyone Wrestling

By Kendall Jenkins on 2026-08-14 08:13:00

In 2025, consumer licensing products brought the WWE $136.4 million, up $25.3 million from the year before. When you compare this to their $1.7 billion in total revenue, it doesn’t seem like much. However, this is the only line on their balance sheet that requires no arena, no stars, and no crew.

What is WWE Licensing?

Licensing is selling the right to put the WWE name on something somebody else makes. WWE doesn’t manufacture the product itself; all they’re doing is allowing another brand to attach the WWE name to it.

For example, the WWE brings out yearly games. However, they’re not the ones developing it; another company called Visual Concepts has been granted the rights to create a game for them. Based on their contract, WWE will then get a lump sum or royalties for each copy sold.

Their action figures and toys do well also. These are created by Mattel, and not WWE themselves. Mattel actually has the global toy license for WWE, so they’re the only company creating toys with their branding.

Fanatics is a different company, and they do the physical and digital trading cards for WWE. Without them having to lift a finger, WWE managed to capture millions in consumer products revenue from Fanatics.

Rent, Don't Build

The logic behind licensing is simple once you understand the reasons why.

Think about it. Mattel already runs moulding plants and has retail relationships. It’s the door for WWE to start selling in this retail environment; all they have to do is come to an agreement on a license purchase or per-sale royalties.

Visual Concepts, again, has the team of developers ready to create and distribute the games. This is their entire world, and the WWE can outsource it to them, all while getting a cut of the profits.

Those two reasons are why the WWE, and any large entertainment business, in fact, choose licensing over creating their own products outside their main offering.

The Gambling Licence

Online casino UK catalogues have WWE-licensed titles as well. WWE: Clash of the Wilds is a good option, a game developed by All41 Studios.

The logic for this licensing deal remains the same. All41 Studios already has the team, infrastructure, and knowledge to make a WWE slot game a success; all WWE needs to do is agree to the licensing.

There aren’t records of how their deal with All41 Studios is structured; however, it certainly contributes to the $136 million generated in licensing their name.

What is Being Sold

Recognition is the key selling point here. The WWE does all the groundwork with their events. Everything extra, like licensing their name to other companies to develop products, comes naturally from that.

They don’t need to do anything else they aren’t already doing. They have to keep pushing the WWE brand, and, naturally, brands will come to them wanting to use their image on their goods and services.
