While largely based in the US, the WWE has often found ways to bring its world-class product to the masses overseas. Sometimes, it’ll be in the form of one-off events in Britain to stage a heavyweight boxer crossover, and sometimes it’ll be cashing in over in Saudi Arabia.
Either way, the WWE isn’t shy of taking its show on the road. In the past, Egypt has welcomed the WWE. In 2012, the WWE World Tour made its debut there, spurring on a new wrestling fan base in Egypt. Now that Egypt wants to prove itself a top-tier sports host and bolster tourism, perhaps it’s time for the WWE to return.

If there’s one thing that Egypt is known for, it’s the ancient sites that have been so excellently preserved. From the mighty pyramids to the temples, funerary rites, mummies, and myths, it’s all of tremendous interest to people from around the world and very well-known beyond just the sites in Egypt.
The ideas from their ancient civilisation continue to be drawn on beyond a purely historical focus. In entertainment, you’ll find a whole collection of films, and in gaming, online platforms are teeming with Ancient Egyptian-themed options, with the Eye of Horus slot being the headliner.
While players keep coming back for the straightforward gameplay and potent features, it’s the image of the ancient tomb and the ties to the famed god Horus that encourage that first click. All-in, interest in everything to do with Ancient Egypt is plenty to uphold strong tourism figures.
Even with this being the case, Egypt wants more. It’s reported that around 15 per cent of Egypt’s economic output is from tourism. Now, helped by the grand opening of a massive, $1 billion new museum, tourism is growing at over eight per cent annually, but the aim is still to hit 30 million visitors by 2030.

According to papers published by the Cabinet’s Media Center, Egypt is looking to strengthen its position as a potential host of major international sporting events. Doubtless having seen the success of massive events in combat sports hosted by the likes of Saudi Arabia and the World Cup in Qatar, Egypt now wants a piece.
It’s already a well-proven host for continental and international championships for major sports. Colossal venues like the 93,940-capacity Misr Stadium, Borg El-Arab Stadium and its 85,00 seats, and the centrepiece Cairo International Stadium are all ready to showcase the greatest athletes and the most popular sports in the world.
Egypt still wants to further prove itself as this great sporting host, though. In 2026, some 120 different sporting competitions are to be held across the country, including major world, international, Arab, and African championships. All of this is likely with the very publicly stated goal of winning the Summer Olympic Games bid.
Bringing the WWE to Cairo or another major city would certainly add another feather to the cap. Not only would it show its ability to host a variety of sports, but it would also encourage fans from Africa, the Middle East, and Europe to visit for the event.
In those massive stadiums, the WWE would have plenty of room to put on a show, and all before an audience that could be among the biggest in the company’s history. So, taking the WWE to Egypt seems like a win-win.
