Some questions following Smackdown:
Cody & Punk came together quickly (as far as TV is concerned). With them teaming at SNME, should we expect some of the usual “not on the same page“ tropes in the match? I don’t expect Cody & Punk to suddenly hate each other or come to blows. And the match can sell itself, but what do you see in the next few weeks to add some heat?
They could do some of that on SNME, for sure. They could also set the seeds for a four way match, adding Sami and Gunther (which I hope like hell doesn’t happen). It would see that Gunther may take on Nick Aldis at SummerSlam, which would be interesting. I don’t know that they need to do too much with Punk and Cody since it’s, well, Punk and Cody.
2. Baron Corbin’s return got a “holy shit“ chant, that one surprised me. Do you have any info as to anyone pushing for his return? Any info as to the length of his contract? He’ll be 42 soon.
His appearance took me by surprise, for sure. I don’t know anything about him coming back at this point but it was nice that the fans popped for it. 42 isn’t that old anymore in wrestling.
3. With Gunther attacking Aldis, is this a one-off return to the ring for Aldis? (I’m guessing they make the match). And what do you see as the end game of this angle?
For whatever reason, they have never wanted to use Aldis in the ring, even though he is under 40. My guess is that it’s a one time where Nick does what Pat McAfee did when he faced Gunther: get close and show toughness, but lose.
4. Solo Sikoa is turning into a guilty pleasure for me. Him showing up with a big smile on his face behind Jimmy & Jey all the time is just awesome. Solo mimicking Jimmy’s time-out motion had me laughing. If there is an eventual alliance with Royce Keys, that could be good. I’m not keen however, on Royce eating yet another loss. Distraction finish, yes, but still a loss. What did you think about how this chapter unfolded?
I like where they are going with Solo too. As I have said many times, they killed him after the match with Roman Reigns 18 months ago. I have always liked him and his work so I want to see where this goes too. It seems to be headed to him aligning with Keys, which would work for me. I won’t kill them for the Keys loss since there were numbers going against him. That’s a credible reason to lose.
