Actor and weightlifter Kjell Nilsson, who portrayed the masked Lord Humungus in the 1981 Mad Max film The Road Warrior, passed away yesterday at 76 years old after a battle with kidney disease. The character was adapted into professional wrestling over the years (spelled Lord Humongous), most famously by the late Sid Vicious early in his career when he was wrestling for Continental Wrestling. The original person to use the character was Mike Stark, who was under the mask and persona for Memphis Wrestling, managed by Jimmy Hart as a Jerry Lawler foe. Jeff Van Camp later took over the role and there were several others who used the gimmick over the years. The Mad Max film also inspired the look and name of The Road Warriors tag team, obviously. Our condolences to Nilsson's family, friends and fans.
