Deadline.com reported today that a documentary on pioneering British wrestling star Big Daddy Crabtree is being developed under the title Who's the Daddy?

During his runCrabtree became one of the most recognizable figures in British professional wrestling history. Known for his massive size, distinctive leotard, and larger-than-life personality, he became a household name through the television program World of Sport during the 1970s and 1980s. Big Daddy's matches drew huge audiences and helped bring professional wrestling into mainstream British entertainment, particularly among families.

The synopsis for the documentary - "The project will examine how an ordinary Halifax sportsman became one of Britain’s most recognizable television personalities, transforming professional wrestling into prime-time family entertainment and laying the foundations for modern celebrity culture in pre-digital Britain."

Earlier this year, author Steven Bell released an excellent book about Crabtee's era of pro wrestling, Big Daddy Versus Giant Haystacks: A Super Heavyweight Story, which also focused on his rivalry with Giant Haystacks (aka Loch Ness in WCW).

Crabtree passed away on 12/2/97 after suffering a heart attack.  He was 67.
