NO ONE WAS STRANDED IN NYC AFTER THE AEW PPV, WHERE'S RICKY SOSA, MICK FOLEY AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2026-05-26 11:00:00

So how did those AEW fans get home from Double or Nothing and what can fans do if they're in such a situation in NYC in the future?

This is such a nothing story, and I don't understand why it's even being discussed or passed around as accurate. There were absolutely zero fans left stranded after AEW Double or Nothing this past Saturday in New York City. The 7 train, which is the subway closest to the stadium, runs 24/7.

In fact, the entire New York City subway system runs 24/7. I know that in other cities trains shut down overnight, but that is not the case in New York City. The Long Island Rail Road, which is right next to the stadium, also runs all night on an hourly schedule, so that was still operating after the show.

Buses were also running 24/7. What happened — and it should not have happened — is that there was a boardwalk leading from the subway station near Citi Field into Flushing Meadows Park, where Louis Armstrong Stadium is located. For some reason, the Parks Department, as they normally do overnight, locked the boardwalk’s main entrances on each side, which they should not have done considering there were 14,000 people inside the stadium.

Why that happened, I do not know. However, the side stairwells to the boardwalk were still open to the public. The boardwalk could still be accessed and walked, and when you got to the other side near the subway, there were ramps leading directly to the subway stairs.  I know this because I grew up living in that area AND that's how I left the stadium at 2 AM after the media scrum.  I used the stairs and walked the boardwalk and took the ramp to exit.  So while I understand that people were upset the boardwalk had been locked, and I don’t understand why it was, this would not have been an AEW issue and should not be blamed on AEW.  It would be like blaming The New York Yankees because a street outside the stadium was closed.

This was a New York City Parks Department issue. Those gates are usually locked overnight to prevent large crowds from entering the parks at night, but the area was still accessible. All you had to do was walk. Even if the boardwalk had been completely inaccessible, it would have only added another five- or ten-minute walk using the streets outside the stadium to reach the subway.

So no one was stranded. No one was left behind. No one was like Kevin McCallister in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. It is a nothing story. I don’t know why it started, and I don’t know why it continues to be repeated as fact when it is absolutely 100% false. It’s just people seeing something on social media and assuming the worst.

Why hasn't Ricky Sosa appeared in TNA since the March tapings?

We are told he was given time off to help out with a personal situation back home in the UK.  No injury or anything like that.

I read in your post-Double or Nothing notes that the New York State Athletic Commission doesn't allow blading. Has this always been the case? Do any other state athletic commissions have the same rule?

It's been far more enforced in recent years and at times, they have even banned tables.  The Maryland Commission is extremely strict about blood.

Do you think that Mick Foley will be a weekly presence on AEW? He seemed really happy and overwhelmed at the DoN pre-show.

We are told he will be around regularly.  I am told he won't be in Philly this week as he has a pre-existing responsibility that was locked in before he signed but the impression I have been given is that he'll be a regular part of AEW programming.

Is Mick Foley going to wrestle in AEW?

I haven't heard that he is, and I would prefer that he doesn't, but I don't know what's in his mind.  My feeling is that if it's going to happen, it'll probably be a long build to one big match.  But, given he said last time he was preparing for one, he ended up with a concussion, my preference would be that we don't see Mick taking bumps into barbed wire or anything like that.  His legend is built with steel and in my mind, he has nothing to prove.  I think fans are expecting the MJF match to happen, so we'll see.  I respect and love Foley's work and his legacy.  I just don't want to see him getting hurt at 60 years old, but let's not forget who his idol was - Terry Funk.  Funk always returned.
