REY MYSTERIO GETS NEW GIG, LAREDO VS. FENIX, GREAT FINAL SHOW BEFORE NOCHE DE LOS GRANDES: 5/23 AAA TV REPORT

We are in Mexico City at Gimnasio Olímpico Juan de la Barrera.

The announcing team saw a shake-up this week with Savio Vega joining Corey Graves and JBL.

The night opened with the Roldan family and the candidates for AAA General Manager in the ring. After a tribute video celebrating AAA’s history, Marisela Peña introduced the company’s new General Manager: Rey Mysterio. JBL reacted with outrage.  Mysterio promised a fresh start for AAA and immediately announced action for the evening.

AAA Cruiserweight Champion Laredo Kid vs. Rey Fenix

The match began respectfully before quickly escalating into a fast-paced showcase of athleticism. Fenix and Laredo Kid traded dives, counters, and near falls in a bout filled with momentum swings. Highlights included a sit-out powerbomb from Fenix, a destroyer DDT and Poisonrana from Kid, and a Muscleuster attempt that nearly ended the match.  Laredo Kid appeared to have gotten hurt, prompting the referee to check on him. However, the situation turned out to be a setup, as Kid low blowbed Fenix while the official was distracted before hitting a frog splash to retain.

Really good match and a nice heel turn.

Rey Mysterio announced that Fenix would receive a rematch at Noche de Los Grandes.

They showed highlights of a celebration for El Grande Americano.

Anything Goes: Los Americanos Hermanos vs. Los Americanos

Everyne is brawling around ringside. Weapons soon entered the match, including chairs, kendo sticks, tables but the highlight was an El Grande Americano piñata. The teams traded increasingly wild spots, including dives, headbutts, table crashes, and a Super Collider that earned a huge reaction from the crowd.  El Grande Americano Original attacked Bravo Americano, eventually confronting El Grande Americano himself. Original mocked Americano and revealed a shirt featuring Americano’s girlfriend, Andrea Bazarte.  This sparked a huge pull apart and was absolutely great.

No contest.

They closed with a great video package pushing next week's Mask vs. Mask match.

This was easily the best WWE broadcast of the last week, including Saturday Night's Main Event.
