Read your column on AEW Fairway to Hell. Very good read. It had me thinking, is there any discussion of AEW going to Sturgis, SD like WCW did for Road Wild PPVs? Could be a Collision show, not necessarily a PPV. Would also like to see a Spring Break show in Panama City or Daytona Beach like WCW Nitro did with a pool.
I've never heard of any AEW interest in going to Sturgis, but I wouldn't downplay the idea of the company doing it if it made economic sense. I believe WCW built the PPV setup themselves as part of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
I saw Joe Gacy is being advertised for WrestleCon under the new name Joseph Sawyer. Did WWE trademark the name Joe Gacy which is why he can't use it?
Usually if a talent has a history of using the ring name prior to their WWE run, they retain those rights when they leave. However, WWE is currently listed as owning the trademark. It may be that since he didn't trademark it first, technically WWE would have the rights until/unless Gacy reaches out and shows them he had usage well prior to his WWE run, which he absolutely did. Or, it may be he doesn't want to pursue it and is moving on with the new ring name. Time will tell.
AAA has become my favorite WWE-affiliated show to watch every week lately. As Undertaker is involved as one of the executive producers, do you have any idea if he's commuting down to Mexico on a regular basis?
He's there for the TV tapings and marquee events.
Like you, I absolutely loved Fairway to Hell. One of your suggestions for another unorthodox venue intrigued me, though. How hard would it be for AEW (or any company) to secure Times Square for a TV taping? I'm sure it would cost a small fortune to shut it down for set up, show time, and tear down, but the idea of a wrestling show in the heart of NYC would be a dream scenario.
I don't know what the cost would be but they could always shut down a portion, which is what WWF did years ago and previous collegiate wrestling events held there. As long as there's a proper infrastructure and traffic control, it can be done. Whether AEW would ever push to do it, I don't know. It makes a lot more sense to run a stadium in Queens and charge for tickets vs. doing a live show in Manhattan where it's free to attend.
With all the recent Von Erich docs, I was wondering if they were buried in Texas in a place where I can go and pay my respects?
They were all laid to rest in Grove Hill Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas.
