1. I think I’ve figured out a new drinking game for J’Von Evans matches; every time they say “Young OG“, take a shot. I think you’d be smashed inside 5 minutes. I know they’re all about branding, but jeezus, it sounded like 10 years ago when Cole kept referring to Roman Reigns as The Big Dog.
They are a bit excessive with it, for sure.
2. Oba Femi Open Challenge: For me, this is exactly what should have happened, no one in their right mind takes the challenge. Babyfaces shouldn’t want to fight another babyface (generally) and the heels should all be too chickenshit to step up. Where do they go from here? Or does Oba just pick someone and just beat them up?
I agree with you. If he beats up babyfaces all the time he risks being seen as heel. I am not sure where they go with it because to your point, no one should want to fight him. It’s what I said when they announced this.
3. Sol Ruca vs. Iyo Sky: That was a big match to give away on TV, but it was big fun. Too soon, though?
Netflix pays them $500M a year. It’s not a give away. And I thought it was a good showcase for Ruca. It reminded me of how they booked Bron Breakker at first, his rookie mistakes cost him and he learned from them. Sol and Becky Lynch could be a lot of fun. They have a diamond in Ruca, for sure.
4. And sort in the same area, have you noticed that some debuting NXT call-ups have eaten some losses? Sol lost here and Ricky Saints lost to Cody over on SD. Should they pull back the reigns a bit and start them off with some lower tier opponents?
I don’t think so. There’s no harm in losing a competitive match against a top star. I don’t think less of either talent after their losses. I think it established that they can hang with the best, so it helps them.
5. Main Event segment: I enjoyed it, that was one helluva brawl. That said, Roman was 100% a dick, yet again. Screaming at Jacob to acknowledge him while beating him with a chair. The fans were still cheering for Fatu, so when he came back and leveled Roman again, I’m guessing many others felt like I did - Roman deserved it. I ask this from the angle of protecting Jacob in the story - where does it go from here? I foresee a rematch, but if Fatu loses again, that leaves him in a bad spot. The Usos were casting some doubts about Roman in the parking lot, so do you see them possibly siding with Fatu?
Roman has been a dick for weeks now. He only gave Jacob the match because Jacob forced him too. He whined that Jacob shouldn’t use a lethal move on him because they are family, but he uses every lethal move he has on Jacob! Then he cheated to win, 100 percent. Last night he is beating Jacob with a chair demanding him be acknowledged, after he cheated to beat him. Jacob is the face to me, for sure. I hope that Creative realizes that because that is definitely how the booking is going. They are building Jacob to the point where people now believe he can beat Roman. If he doesn’t do it, they had better have a really good way to keep it from happening. For now, they could always go with Jacob is not a Raw wrestler so Adam Pearce doesn’t let him on the show. They could cross paths at PLEs and maybe lead to a SummerSlam match. If that happens, I could see them switching the belt.
