PAIGE FILM 'FIGHTING WITH MY FAMILY' BEING ADAPTED INTO MUSICAL

Fighting with My Family, the 2019 WWE Studios film about Paige and her family is being adapted into a theatrical musical in Great Britain.

The Dwayne Johnson-produced film, which was released theatrically and in all likelyhood, was the best WWE Studios production ever.  Based on a British documentary made about Paige's family, The Knights, who have been wrestling and promoting the World Association of Wrestling (WAW) promotion in Great Britain for years, the film hits all the right emotional and entertaining moments for viewers.  Paige was portrayed by actress Florence Pugh (now best known for Marvel productions) as the film follows a fictionalized version of her path to World Wrestling Entertainment, right down to a major scene where they recreate the night she debuted on Raw, captured the WWE Divas Championship to close the film.

The synopsis of the show: When a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity takes her from Norwich to America’s glitzy WWE, she must confront who she really is without her family in her corner. 

The show is being written by Olivier Award-winning playwright Jon Brittain with music from Miranda Cooper and Nick Coler.

Dwayne Johnson and the film's Director Stephen Merchant are attached to the project as producers.

“Fighting With My Family feels exceptionally well-suited for the stage,” Johnson said on the project's website. “It’s packed with personal emotion expressed through the dynamic world of wrestling, which has always been about storytelling and connecting with a live audience. … As it comes to life musically, I have no doubt it will be an absolute blast for theatergoers.”

The first public performances are not likely to take place until 2027.

TILTED MUSICALS, in collaboration with DWAYNE Johnson, STEPHEN MERCHANT and Kevin Misher, have announced that Stephen Merchant’s 2019 biopic film FIGHTING WITH MY FAMILY is now in development as a major new British musical.

With book and lyrics by Olivier award-winning playwright Jon Brittain (Kathy and Stella Solve a Murder!), FIGHTING WITH MY FAMILY will feature a bold new soundtrack by Brit Award-winning British songwriter Miranda Cooper who shaped the sound of 2000s British pop music, penning over 30 top ten singles and 4 #1’s for major British pop acts including Girls Aloud, Sugababes, Pet Shop Boys, Alesha Dixon and Kylie Minogue.
 
Fighting With My Family originally premiered in January 2019 at the Sundance Film Festival before being released in the US and UK in February of the same year. The film follows the extraordinary true story of WWE superstar Paige, played by Florence Pugh. Vince Vaughn played the WWE trainer and Dwayne Johnson featured as himself as well as an executive producer on the film.
