Is there any chance of Sareee returning to WWE?
I would never say never on anything, but I have heard zero rumblings of any potential return. Given how she was utilized, I don't know that she'd want to try that again.
What exactly happened to Steve Maclin last night?
It was just a freak accident and unfortunately, when the superkick connected, it rocked him. The referee was smart and alert enough to recognize it and stopped the physicality where in previous generations, everyone would have toughed through the situation and potentially made the situation worse.
I'm happy to see that Will Ospreay is cleared to wrestle, but I'm kind of surprised he only took six or so months toheal from neck surgery; usually wrestlers who've had similar surgeries historically take a lot longer to heal up. But on the same topic, I've always wondered: how the hell was Steve Austin able to wrestle only three months after getting his neck broken by that Owen Hart piledriver in 1997? Did the speedy turnaround contribute to the neck issues that plagued the rest of his career?
I don't believe Ospreay had neck fusion surgery, which typically takes a year to recover from. I think Austin willed himself to come back because he knew there was lightning in a bottle so he made the decision to gamble and obviously it paid off. I don't know that it contributed directly to his neck issues but obviously did not help them. Thankfully, Austin has said on record that he lives pretty much pain-free today from neck issues.
Staying on the topic of neck injuries, I honestly wouldn't be bothered if Bryan Danielson stayed retired and stuck around as a commentator, if only to spare his body any further punishment. But if he wanted to have one last match some day and nobody could talk him out of it, who should his opponent be?
I have no idea. It should be someone he wanted to wrestle but never had the chance to do. I'm fine if Danielson never returns. He gave a lot to the business.
I read your two pieces regarding OVW and safety measures and couldn't agree more. Aside from indie promotions having necessary medical presence, should it become common practice for all pro wrestling schools to have mandatory first aid and CPR training for wrestlers and referees alike?
Yes and I've made that clear over the years, everyone working backstage and certainly at ringside should have that training. In fact, I'd argue if they don't have that training, don't allow them backstage.
What do you think happens if WWE can't go to Saudi for Wrestlemania?
I don't think even they know for sure right now, but if I am them, I'm reaching out to New Orleans and Indianapolis to make contingency plans, since those are the markets they have promised Mania weekends to.
