By Mike Johnson on 2026-03-12 11:32:00

UPDATE 12:20 PM:

Earlier today Tyra Mae Steele wrote on Twitter she had been "let go" by WWE.  PWInsider.com noted we were seeking clarification from WWE.

In speaking to several in the company, we are told Steele was not released.  One source we spoke with said Steele was writing about "a dream."

So, there's the update and clarification.

ORIGINAL STORY 11:32 PM EST:

Tyra Mae Steele, 33, stated she has been released by WWE, writing, "On a weekend off working for WWE, I went back to Olympic wrestling, won gold at Worlds, prize purse was $350000.... Tried to go back to WWE that Monday. They moved me up to Raw, just to tell me they had to let me go bc I went behind their back.... So was this a DREAM or NIGHTMARE"

Steel, real name Tamyra Mensah Stock, won a gold medal in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.  She signed with WWE in 2023 and was the women's winner for the first season of the WWE LFG reality series, where she won a WWE NXT contract after being mentored by The Undertaker.  She had been a regular on the WWE EVOLVE series on Tubi and had also appeared on WWE NXT and WWE NXT Level Up.  She last performed for the company last month.

Steel is currently listed on the NXT roster on the official WWE website.

PWInsider.com has reached out to WWE for clarification.
