Some queries after RAW last night.
1. Punk/Roman -
Once again, a masterclass on the mic, some serious heat flying back and forth. If anyone didn't think it was personal before, well it sure is now!
Punk's closing line was....damn. That was a "you deserve a punch in the mouth" moment. Which brings me to: I expect Punk and Reigns get physical in the coming weeks, but bringing up someone's dead parent? Them's fightin' words. I did not expect Roman to stand there stunned, I expected him to start knocking teeth out. If they were going to "go there” with the comments, did Punk already max out with that one? Thoughts?
Being around the business as long as I have I know that when two pros go there, it’s been talked about, or at least intimated. Many, many wrestlers feel that it’s an honor to be used in an angle after they pass the way that Sika was on Raw. I loved the back and forth as both took haymakers and I don’t think for a minute that there isn’t more raw, pun intended, verbiage to come from both. I get why Roman didn’t punch him. His character has always been one that doesn’t simply react and it’s too early to get physical. Plus, Roman made a point of telling Punk he hated him last week. But I am sure he will have a rebuttal and I can’t wait to hear it.
2. Danhausen - if he's used in backstage skits I think he could be fun. I have little doubt that he'll sell a TON of merch, which will make TKO very happy. I liked the way that Judgement Day didn't have to act afraid in front of him, they just played it cool and non-plussed, which they should have. I don't understand his gimmick, but, I'll give it a chance. Do you recall him even wrestling a match in AEW?
I don’t get him either but some folks do and if he sells merch, that’s all that counts to TKO. There is nothing wrong with having good comedy characters. He did wrestle in AEW, yes.
3. Dominic drops the IC Title - I'm VERY happy for Penta, he deserves it. I just saw Dom getting beaten as more of a WM moment than a TV segment. Do you think he moves on from the IC Title, or is this a quick reign for Penta and Dom wins it back?
I would think Penta holds it for a while. A rematch at Mania could be in the cards, for sure. Penta needed the win and Dom doesn’t need the belt.
4. Rhea heading to SD to confront Jade Cargill - I think this match has a LOT of potential to exceed everyone's expectations. Do you think this is going to be a big win for Cargill to help cement her as a top act, or is Mami going to be on top again? Have you or Mike heard anything about how Jade is perceived by management? Fans online, from what I've read either love her or hate her.
At this point, I can’t say. I want to see how the build goes first and then go from there but the recent social media stuff from her makes me think she could be doing the job. Obviously, if she retains against Rhea it means a lot to Jade’s stature. I will have a better feel when I see how it’s being built up.
5. Gotta hand it to Paul Heyman, taking chair shots and stomps at 60 years old. That man is pure gold. I hope when his on-camera days are done that he's utilized well behind the scenes. A wrestling mind like his does not come around often.
I said the same thing as I was watching Raw. At his age, to take that stiff shot from the chair when he was never a bump taker? Or even if he was? It’s pretty bad ass. He did a great job taking the stomp too. Unless something drastic happens, I don’t see Heyman going anywhere. He loves what he is doing and he is an invaluable resource for the talents there already.
