AAA is live from Monterrey, Mexico at the Showcenter Complex - 2/28/26
Rey Mysterio, JBL and Corey Graves are the announcing team.
We opened with a recap of last week’s Mega Championship contract signing that broke down into a fight between the two El Grande Americanos.
El Grande Americano came to the ring to a strong reaction from the Monterrey crowd. Commentary debated which Americano is the original. Rey is convinced this one is legitimate. Graves is skeptical.
Americano praised Monterrey and then turned his attention to the “short fraud” stealing his name. He mocked the other Americano for not speaking Spanish and hiding behind AI. He reminded everyone this is Mexico, not Monday Night Raw.
Backstage, Pimpinela Escarlata attempted to confront the “Original” Americano. The segment played for comedy as the Original butchered Spanish while Pimpi offered him food. It ended with Escarlata being attacked. Later in the show, Pimpi was shown in a neck brace and ultimately taken away in an ambulance.
AAA Cruiserweight Championship #1 Contender’s Match: Dragon Lee vs. Jack Cartwheel
They opened with chain wrestling and counters. Cartwheel avoided an early moonsault and landed a crucifix bomb for two. Lee answered with stiff kicks and knocked Cartwheel to the floor before hitting a running flip dive. Back inside, Cartwheel connected with a Spanish Fly for two. The pace picked up from there. Lee hit a sit-out powerbomb for two. Cartwheel landed a poisonrana and followed with a twisting springboard Phoenix splash for another near fall. Lee came back with a Styles Clash for two of his own. Lee blocked a top-rope rana attempt, delivered a double stomp and then finished Cartwheel with Operation Dragon.
Your winner, Dragon Lee!
A fast, athletic sprint with strong near falls and clean execution. I can only imagine what the could pull out with more time.
Lee declared himself the next Cruiserweight Champion. TJP interrupted, saying Lee isn’t the true number one contender. Laredo Kid came out and brawled with TJP but accidentally struck Lee. Cartwheel returned with a top rope dropkick and ended up standing tall holding the title belt. Lots of talent vying for the belt.
A doctor updated Pimpinela Escarlata’s condition. Escalarta, being placed in an ambulance, asked El Grande Americano to enter the qualifying match tonight as Esclarate's substitute for Mexico. He agreed.
El Ojo questioned the strategy of Omos entering Rey de Reyes if Vikingo wins the Mega Title, as they would have to face each other. Dorian Roldan insisted it’s part of a larger plan. Vikingo didn’t look entirely convinced.
Announced for next week: Santos Escobar vs. Mr. Iguana vs. Psycho Clown vs. Abismo Negro Jr.
Rey de Reyes Qualifying Match: Ethan Page vs. Omos vs. Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. vs. El Grande Americano
What a mix here. Page immediately bailed to the floor and even sat in the front row to avoid Omos. Who can blame him? Omos told the other two to bring it. They did. Bad idea for them. Omos shrugged off double team attempts, slammed Americano, and tossed Wagner around. Page briefly tried to align with Omos before being kicked in the face. He flew all the way to Mexico to get kicked in the face. Well, I guess so do all wrestlers.
Omos hit a side slam on Americano and a big boot on Wagner for two. Page made the save and instantly regretted it as Omo drilled him. Omos at one point had both masked men in his arms while kicking Page down. They were presenting him as a monster. Wagner eventually hit a dive to stagger Omos and triple teaming sent the big man outside. Back in, Wagner hit a frog splash on both Page and Americano for two. Page and Wagner traded shots. Page teased going after Wagner’s mask before Americano broke it up. Americano hit a Death Valley Driver on Wagner, but Page stole a near fall. Wagner responded with a Wagner Driver on Page, but Santos Escobar appeared and pulled the referee out. Escobar and Wagner brawled to the back.
Omos returned and grabbed both Page and Americano by the throat. Los Americanos suddenly ran in and handcuffed Omos to the ring post, so he was trapped outside. Will be break the cuffs? Americano locked in a camel clutch on Page and Page tapped, but the referee had been knocked down. Cue the Original El Grande Americano wearing Pimpinela’s hat for the distraction. Page capitalized with a powerbomb for two. Original grabbed a chair, but La Parka ran in and attacked him with it instead. Americano hit his running loaded headbutt on Page for the pin at 18:02.
Your Winner, El Grande Americano!
This was all over the place, in the right way. Lots of spots and chaos and weapons and stories intertwining and the live crowd loved the hell out of it.
A fun episode, which has been the norm for AAA.
