LEGENDARY WWE DIRECTOR KERWIN SILFIES PASSES AWAY

By Mike Johnson on 2027-02-18 11:20:00

PWInsider.com is saddened to report the passing of Kerwin Silfies, who for many, many years was the Director for the vast majority of WWE's programs and specials.  We are told Silfies, who had been dealing with some health issues privately, passed away last night.  Silfies was 75 years old and in recent years, had been residing in Florida.

Silfies had an extemely long run with the company, starting with the WWF in 1985 and working there for many decades through the 2020s, when he was among those furloughed by the company during the COVID-19 pandemic.   Silfies never returned to the company after the furlough and his departure at the time was seen as shocking from the outside.  Marty Miller, who now Directs Raw, replaced Silfies.

Silfies was a huge reason for the success and growth of what WWE became as it grew nationally and then globally.  From Saturday Night's Main Events in the 80s era to Wrestlemanias to WWE's first broadcasts in Saudi Arabia, Silfies was at the helm directing, helping to curate what professional wrestling fans saw for decades, the prism that influenced how many saw professional wrestling as they grew up.  Silfies has also been publicly credited with a great eye for character vignettes in the past by Bruce Prichard, specifically vignettes used to establish Curt Henning as Mr. Perfect in the late 1980s.

Beyond his WWE work, Silfies is also credited with directing The Last Full Measure, a Stacy Keach-narrated documentary on The Battle of Gettysburg that was released in 2007.

Silfies' first name was also the inspiration for the Kerwin White character portrayed for a short time by Chavo Guerrero in 2005.

Silfies purposely stayed out of the spotlight but did appear in the fairly recent Peacock documentary on WWE's Wrestlemania IX documentary.

If there was ever someone who deserved to be inducted into the company's Hall of Fame, it is certainly Kerwin Silfies.

PWInsider.com sends our deepest condolences to Kerwin's family, friends and co-workers.
