Welcome to PWInsider.com's coverage of JCW SuperPower Slam from The Melrose Ballroom in Queens, NY. The initial plan was to have live ongoing access from the venue, then family issues kept me from attending. Then, the plan was for live coverage of the stream and then that got presented, so here's coverage of the VOD version of the event, which is currently streaming for free on Game Changer Wrestling's YouTube channel:
First and most importantly, the event is raising money for NYC's Little Oaks Center for Neurodevelopment, the first comprehensive resource hub for neurodiverse children and their families - a place where families can access therapies, resources, and community support all under one roof. You can donate at this link and we ask that if you can, you do. As of this writing, they had raised almost 28K, which is amazing.
The broadcast opened with a promo from Paul Walter Hauser. He said he and Mad Dog Connelly have a date with destiny. When he took this match, he was asked whether he really wanted to get in the ring with Mad Dog. His reaction was, of course, it's NYC and for a great cause. Then, he did his research and he found out the type of brawler and mauler Connelly is in the ring. Hauser said this isn't a celebrity cameo match, he takes this very seriously. He's going to request a Lumberjack strap match. He said some dogs need to be taught, so he's going to teach him one - play dead. Good promo from Hauser.
They had a countdown show talking up the matches and the charity cause.
Nick Knowledge and Veda Scott were the announcing team.
I would highly suggest watching this as it's a great collection of younger talents. These are going to be the many of the ones who mature and grow into the next generation of stars over the next few years. Certainly, these will be the ones that WWE ID will be scouting next.
Gabby Forza defeated Janai Kai and Jordan Blade and Nixi XS in a pre-show match. NXS has a cool, exotic look that makes her stand out. Kanai has a nice, kickass run in MLW. Forza has really likable charisma, like a mix of ODB and Bayley. She loves gnomes. Well, who doesn't? I guess Blake, who was all business, no nonsense. It was one fall to the finish. Kai drilled XS with a running kick off the apron. Forza and Blake went at each other with aggression but neither moved an inch. Gabby finally shoulderblocked her down, then nailed a running clothesline. XS caught her with a head scissors and drilled her with a DDT variation. Kanai returned to confronted XS. She and Blade nailed stereo kicks Kai drilled her with a knee to the face for a two count but Forza broke it up. Forza was now being worked over two on one, trying to forearm her way out. Blade was going to drill her but XS grabbed her leg. That allowed Forza to nail a lariat. Kanai nailed Blade with a roundhouse kick. Forza speared Kai. XS showed some good fire against Blade, especially her forearms. Blade caught her with a cravate. Every time someone grabs one, Chris Hero gets his wings. Blade nailed her with a backfist and a German release suplex. Kai returned and loaded up with kicks. Kai smashed Jordan with a kick to the back and covered her but it was broken up. Forza nailed a Thunder Driver on XS for the pin. Fun match where everyone worked hard.

Emil J is the ring announcer. He always brings a lot of energy.
In a 10 Man tag, Bustah And The Brain (new AEW signings Alec Price & Jordan Oliver), Man Like DeReiss & Fancy Ryan Clancy & Terry Yaki defeated Charles Mason, Darian Bengston, Griffin McCoy, KJ Orso & Manny Lo. Mason is one of the top stars of House of Glory. Man Like DeReiss is a rising star from UK. Yaki has been all over a lot of shows on the Eastern Seaboard. Orso is the former Fuego del Sol who recently debuted for TNA and been a GCW regular. Price is a hell of a talker and he and Oliver have really clicked as a team. The idea here was this was a preview for the JCW J-Cup tournament, which is coming up in The Garden State. Knowledge played up the idea that Orso and Mason, diabolical heels in their companies, on the same team was a frightening prospect. Yaki looked good early on against Orso. Bengston, who has been working for GCW of late, tagged in and played to the crowd, saying he was the fanciest wrestler in the ring. Clancy, who uses the Fancy nickname, took umbrage with this and tagged in. DeReiss tagged in but was slapped by Bengston. He didn't like that and exploded into offensive maneuvers. Clancy and DeReiss double-teamed Bengston. This turned into the rest of the team all attacking Bengston's arm with top rope moves. There was a brief skirmish on the floor before Yaki was cut off and worked over by McCoy. Team Mason all stomped him in the corner. Yaki finally fought his way to making a tag to Clancy. Clancy had some offense before McCoy caught him with a kick to the face. Clancy was worked over, including Mason biting his face and Lo showing some nice charisma. Clancy came back with a big monkeyflip on Orso. Oliver gets the hot tag and cleans house with hard chops and forearms. He nailed a big chokeslam on Mason. Oliver's confidence in the ring has really soared over the last year. DeReiss is caught with a shotgun dropkick in the corner and a DVDR by Mason for a two count. DeReiss nailed a cutter on Lo but Mason broke it up. That sparked a series of fast sequences before Team DeReiss all hit the ring at once to break up the pinfall. It reminded me of the old Michinoku Pro six man tags. Price and Jordan cleaned house. Price hit a dive to the floor. Clancy hit a dropkick and scored the pin on Lo. Very entertaining even with some many bodies involved at once. You can see Lo is going to be a star unless something stupid happens.

Willow Nightingale defeated Mara Sade. It's AEW vs. TNA! Each received a nice reaction but Willow is a hometown girl, so she's the favorite. They had some nice wrestling early, feeling each other out. Nightingale is infinitely likable and should be the center of every AEW promotional campaign, but that's just my opinion. Sade has really raised her game since leaving NXT and JCW was one of the first places to use her. Her confidence and charisma has really shined over the last year. Some good back and forth near falls early. They ended up in a stalemate and shook hands. Sade used a lucha armdrag off the ropes. She nailed a FAR and hard dropkick off the ropes. It looked great and forceful. The crowd chanted for Willow. Nightingale came back with a series of clotheslines in the corner, followed by a short arm clothesline for a two count. Willow paid tribute to Brad Armstrong with the Russian Legsweep and cinched in a submission. Sade battled back but was caught with a lariat. Willow clotheslined her over the top to the floor. She aimed for a kick off the apron but Sade tripped her and Nightingale went to the floor. Sade came off the apron with a lariat. Sade tossed Willow into the ring and nailed a leaping forearm in the corner, followed by a hip attack. Willow caught her going for another and nailed a German suplex. Whoops! They battled to the entrance stage, where Sade drilled Nightingale's knee from behind. Sade nailed a knee to the head and brought her back to the ring for a two count. Nightingale went for a powerbomb but Sade escaped, only to be snatched into a DVDR for a two count. Sade caught her with a DDT for a two count. They battled back and forth with forearms to the chest. Sade stunned her with a flurry but was caught with The Pounce. Nightingale nailed The Doctor Bomb for the pin. Shout out to Dr. Tom Prichard! This was a fun back and forth battle.

ROH TV Champion Lee Moriarty battled Jonathan Gresham to a legitimate 20 minute draw. This is one of Gresham's first appearances back in the ring after suffering a stroke last year. They hugged before the bout. Then, they each hugged the referee. The crowd chanted for a group hug. Gresham refused. I love when pro wrestling is ridiculous. They finally agreed. Gresham and Moriarty immediately had great chemistry in the ring, which isn't a shock since Moriarty is one of the smoothest and most underrated talents today from a technical sense. They got tangled up in the corner and Gresham connected with Moriarty's eye, claiming it was accidental. Moriarty dives and grabs the ankle, taking Gresham to the mat. There was some excellent back and forth mat wrestling as well as intricate work where they focused on extremities and ligaments, working to wear down the other. Gresham connected with a headbutt as he was being lifted into a move, leading an angry Moriarty to smash him hard with a forearm. Gresham, upset, unwrapped his wrist tape and they began firing back and forth with hard chops. Moriarty took him to the mat and tied up his arms, using the leverage to force Gresham into a pinfall for a close two count. Gresham escaped and drilled his elbow, then hit an armdrag to the mat. He cinched up a crucifix for a two count. Moriarty came back with a tackle and they faced off. Moriarty went for a slam but Gresham shifted his weight and they crashed down. Moriarty kicked Gresham's hand, which hurt him. They are telling a pretty great physical story. If you want wrestling presented as a sporting fight, this is your jam. Gresham hit a rana and rolled through for a two count. It broke down and they started brawling back and forth with forearms. Gresham finally went down and an exhausted Moriarty followed. This is awesome. The bell rang as Moriarty got to his feet. They ran out of town. The crowd wasn't happy with that, but man, I hope this sets up a longer (or not) time limit rematch down the line. Gresham said he wanted to give the audience what they deserve, five more minutes. He said he fought his ass off to come back and wrestle. He said his dream was not going to TNA, WWE or AEW but to wrestle for passionate fans like the ones here. As much as he would like five more minutes with the Best Pure Pro Wrestler in the world, he wants to wait until he's 100%. He said he's been working on it but he's not 100%. He's going to come back and give Mortiarty the hardest match of his career. He walked the ring and kissed the four turnbuckles. The crowd chanted, "Both these guys." Loved every second of this!
Nick Knowledge and Veda Scott did a great job on commentary on this one!

In a Five-Way Lucha bout, Mascarita Dorada defeated Gringo Loco, Komander, Rey Horus and Vengador. Dorada, the well known mini, wasn't initimidated by anyone. You love to see it. Gringo went down on his knees to face him. He kicked down Dorada. Horus and Vengador battled. Knowledge was very excited about the luchadors. Horus looked good and hit some big ranas. Horus and Komander showed each other respect in the ring before Horus attacked him. Komander looked good with a series of dropkicks. He ascended to the top and did some rope bouncing wizardry into a head scissors on Vengador. It was nuts. Komander hit a corkscrew into a rana on Gringo. Dorada and Komander faced off. Dorada nailed a series of chops. He nailed a leaping headbutt off the ropes. Vengador got involved but ate some Dorada chops. Dorada nailed a top rope rana. Dorada nailed a tope to the outside on Vengador. Gringo kicked him down on the floor. Gringo pressed Dorada over his head and carried him around the ring, threatening to toss him into the fans but instead threw him at Rey Horus. Gringo and Vengador agreed to team up. Komander tried to dive on them but was caught and hit with a double powerbomb. Vengador and Gringo returned to the ring, beating down Horus. Lots of fun spots. Dorada returned all fired up but was taken down. Vengador went to his knees to chop Dorada. Dorada came back with a facebuster on Gringo. Vengador missed a charge in the corner. Dorado was launched into Loco, hitting a rana. Horus hit a big dive over the ring post on Vengador. Dorada then nailed his own. Komander walked the ropes and hit an awesome moonsault dive onto everyone in the aisle that brought the house down. Everyone battled. Komander hit a leaping DDT off Gringo's shoulders on Vengador and Horus. Dorada showed incredible strength pulling Gringo on his shoulders for a DVDR. Everyone battled. Dorada went around and around Gringo's shoulders before pulling him into a small package for the pin. NYC lost it for this. Super fun lucha bout with some nice breath-taking spots.
They announced the current Hayabusa from Japan will be coming to Joey Janela's Spring Break.

Cowboy Way (1 Called Manders & Tombstone Thomas Shire) & Matt Tremont defeated Adam Priest & LaBron Kozone & Mance Warner. The story is that they didn't want to wait to fight so their matches were combined into a six man tag and that they ever got into a fight at the hotel the night before the show. Tremont wore a cowboy hat to the ring with his partners. They came out to Bon Jovi's Wanted Dead or Alive. Respect for the Richie Sambora era. Everyone brawled at the bell. They battled around ringside as well as in the ring, pretty much mauling each other. Kozone was worked over by Cowboy Way. Priest escaped an Oklahoma Stampede into the buckles. Kozone nailed a big leaping elbow. Manders was trapped in the opposing corner and worked over for some time. Tremont made the hot tag and nailed Warner with the Bionic Elbow. Shire began throwing Saito Suplexes. Everyone went into a series of finishing maneuvers. Matt kicked Warner low after Mancer kicked him in the groin first. Turnaround is fair play. Kozone and Manders battled and had some fun sequences. Kozone showed a ton of potential in this bout. Priest and Kozone weren't on the same page and argued. Shire, who looked like he stepped out of 1970s pro wrestling, did an awesome Argentino Rocca style airplane spin. They finally defeated Priest. Fun bout.

JCW Champion Billie Starkz defeated Effy. Effy is a former GCW Champion. GCW and JCW routinely have men wrestling women as there are no separate divisions. They acted like it was going to be a friendly contest, dancing but Effy immediately went after her and gave Starkz noogies. She returned the favor. Effy played to the crowd being loud and bombastic about wanting her title. Starkz went for a dive but was nailed with a forearm as she hit the ropes. Effy locked her in a Tarantula. Somewhere in Japan, Tajiri raised his eyebrow. Effy worked over Starkz's arm and walked the ropes, but she crotched him. She bounced him on the ropes. Starkz nailed a kick and a suplex for a two count. She drilled his back but he cut off her momentum with a big forearm to the face. Starkz kicked his jaw with a spinkick, then executed a German suplex for a two count. Billie went to the top but was cut off. Effy speared the hell out of her for a close two count. Effy kept hitting big moves but Starkz kept kicking out. Effy said he was going to be champion and hit a TKO before locking in a Dragon Sleeper. Tatsumi Fujinami is now raising his eyebrow! Starkz fought to get to the ropes or escape but Effy began raising down elbows to her ribs, then took her to the mat. He nailed a curb stomp but Starkz still escaped the pinfall before three. He went for a powerbomb but she rolled through with a rana and exploded with chops and forearms. Effy pulled her down to the mat and went for a Razor's Edge, drilling it for another two count. Effy grabbed a steel chair. Starkz drilled him and hit a swanton off the top for the pin to retain the belt.

GCW Champion Atticus Cogar defeated Bear Bronson. Cogar recently won the GCW title and is not liked. The crowd chanted "F- Ohio." Bronson has rebuilt his career over the last year in part thanks to his GCW appearances and recently signed with TNA. He has put in a ton of work on himself in the last year. Cogar, who is at a big size disadvantage, tried to make up the distance by attacking Bear. Bear came back with a big backdrop. Bronson began raining down with body shots in the corner and followed with a hard chop. Cogar tries to escape but still gets caught. Bear pressed the champ over his head and dropped him down, Ultimate Warrior style. Bronson then dropped a big elbow off the ropes for a two count. Cogar tried to take a breather on the floor but like the bear in 1970s film Grizzly, Bronson stalked and attacked him. I bet there's a reference no one expected. Respect to the late, great Andrew Prine, a hell of an actor. Bear beat down Atticus on the floor. He pressed Cogar above his head and carried him back to the ring, tossing him in. The crowd chanted for "New Champ." Bear returned to the ring but was nailed low as he made his way through the ropes. He mauled Bear. There were some chants for Atticus but others were drowning it out. Cogar ripped at Bear's face and mouth. Bear finally made a comeback but missed a low lariat. Cogar nailed a headbutt for a two count. Cogar nailed a superkick and a leg lariat for score near falls. Bronson nailed a Black Hole Slam for a two count. Cogar and Bear faced off. Bear dared him to bring it. Cogar nailed several shots but Bear snatched him and bit his face. They battled back and forth. Bear nailed a big back suplex. He missed a charge and was snapped with a German suplex. Christian Napier distracted Bear, allowing Cogar to knock him off the ropes and come off with a splash. Allie Katch came out as Cogar choked out Bear with a plastic bear. She sent Napier into the ring post. Allie attacked Cogar, who she is wrestling on 2/14. Effy ran out as Katch was grabbed. They battled. Allie joined the fray. Effy wanted to hit him with the belt but Allie was sent into it. Cogar knocked Effy to the floor. Bear recovered during all this and nailed a big lariat. Bronson went for a chokebomb but was kicked low. He choked out Bear with the bag again. Gabby Forza, Bear's wife, hit the ring and nailed Cogar. She pulled a door out from under the ring. Doors are a big GCW staple. They placed it in the corner and Cogar was jhit with a DVDR through the door. Bear went for the cover but Napier pulled the referee out. There's no DQs in GCW. Bronson attacked Napier. Gabby put the plastic bag on Cogar. Otis Cogar, Atticus' brother, hit the ring and chokeslammed her. He put the bag over Gabby. Matt Tremont ran out with a chair and began beating Otis and chased him to the back. Bear was beaten over the head with the remnants of the door, which didn't hurt him. Cogar grabbed skewers and pounded them into Bear's head. He nailed a Poisonrana with the skewers in his head but Bear kicked out. The crowd loved that. Bear was bleeding from the head, the first blood of the night. Bear went for a move but the plastic bag was placed over his face. He ripped it open and went for the Chokeslam but Cogar rolled through and scored the pin. There was a LOT, maybe too much, going on during the latter half of this if you weren't familiar with GCW but Bear looked good and Cogar was a good heel champ.

In a Lumberjack with Straps match, PROGRESS Proteus Champion Paul Walter Hauser defeated Mad Dog Connelly. The Lumberjacks all pounded the mat. I'm let down they aren't wearing flannel. Hauser has lost a lot of weight. They battled each other with slaps. Hauser was sent half through the ropes and was immediately strapped to hell as Connelly held him. Connelly was sent to the floor, where he got his licks beaten into him as well. Hauser nailed a legsweep and a headbutt for a two count. One of the Lumberjacks had a pillow, which is hilarious. Hauser went to the ropes and nailed a Blockbuster with a strap for a two count. Hauser unloaded with chops and nailed a series of strikes. Hauser is 1000% better than where he was when he started doing this. Connelly nailed a suplex for a two count. Hauser was booted in the face and choked in the corner with a boot. Hauser was dumped to the floor, where the Lumberjacks beat him down. Charles Mason choked him with a strap as Hauser really fought to get back in the ring. Connelly nailed a gutwrench suplex for a two count. Hauser went to the floor again. They beat him again. He's taking quite the beating here. Hauser reversed a whip and sent Connelly to the floor this time. It turned into a brawl with the Lumberjacks. Hauser went to the ropes and hit a dive onto the pile. Hauser nailed a back suplex onto the pile of Lumberjacks. Quite a spectacle. They battled into the ring, slapping and chopping each other. Connelly began mauling Hauser, tearing his shirt and slapping away. Hauser blocked and fired back with his own shots. He did Kobashi chops in the corner, although not as explosive as Kobashi. They battled into the corner, where Hauser was caught and Connelly went for a superplex. He nailed it. Really, Hauser is doing way more than he should be doing as a well paid actor, so you know he loves this stuff. You have to respect it. Connelly kills him with a lariat but Connelly pulled Hauser back up. Hauser was beaten down. Connelly grabbed his dog collar chain and placed it around Hauser. He tied up Hauser in the corner. He called Beastman, the largest Lumberjack, into the ring and teased hitting Hauser with a bear trap. 1 Called Manders drilled him and began brawling with Beastman. That's a lot of fighting. Hauser freed himself and nailed Beastman. He caught Beastman in the bear trap and then nailed the Crane Kick, playing off Cobra Kai. He knocked Beastman to the floor. Manders sent Connelly into Hauser, who punched him low. Hauser nailed a Faceplant and scored the pin.
After the match, Connelly threatened to bloody Manders when they face in a steel cage match. Hauser put over Manders as the best wrestler on the entire circuit and told Connelly to shove the chain up his ass. Manders said he'll see him at the J-Cup.

JetSpeed (AEW's Kevin Knight & Mike Bailey) defeated Janelasus (Joey Janela & Megan Bayne) in the main event. Jetspeed attacked at the bell and they all battled to the stage. Bayne was hit with a double suplex. They worked over Janela until Bayne returned. She press slammed Bailey over the ropes onto Knight on the floor. Bayne dragged Bailey back into the ring. She whipped Janela into Bailey in the corner. They worked over Bailey. Janela was slammed atop of him. Knight returned to hit a big springboard clothesline on Janela. He worked over Janela's back and hit a sprinting forearm smash. Bailey nailed a series of kicks on Janela. Janela was worked over for some time and tried to make the tag back to Bayne but Knight knocked her off the apron to prevent it. Janela nailed a moonsault to take his opponents down. Bayne gets the hot tag and cleans house with kicks and lariats. Bayne hit a splash on both members of Jetspeed in the corner. She nailed a double Fall Away Slam. She really is a hell of a talent. Megan nailed a Falcon Arrow on Knight for a two count. Bayne went for a powerbomb but was backdropped over. Bailey blasted her with a missile dropkick off the top and followed with a punk kick in the corner. Janela and Bailey battled near the top. Knight and Bayne got involved and it turned into a Tower of Doom spot. NYC loved that. The two teams rose to their feet and battled back and forth. Janela and Bayne drilled them to the mat as Jetspeed rebounded off the ropes. They teased a double dive but were tripped by Jetspeed and pulled out. They all battled on the floor. Speedball went for the flipping knee strikes on the apron but Janela avoided it and hit a DVDR on the apron. Knight attacked Janela on the floor and tossed him back into the ring. Janela avoided the UFO splash. Bayne snatched him and hit a German suplex on Knight. Knight nailed a top rope rana on Janela, sending him crashing in Bayne. Speedball nailed a shooting star press for a two count. Bailed hit a thrust kick. Everyone exploded into big kicks and strikes. Bayne hit a clothesline on Speedball. Knight clotheslined Bayne as she drilled him and they both crashed to the mat. NYC chanted, "This is awesome." Jetspeed retreated from the ring and began to leave. Janela and Bayne chased Knight down. Bailey attacked Joey. Bayne reversed a double suplex on the entrance stage. Bailey was tossed back in the ring. They set up a Doomsday Device but Bailey turned it into a rana on Janela while Bayne crashed and burned. They attacked Janela but Bayne broke it up. Bayne blocked a buzzsaw kick and they nailed a spike tombstone on Bailey for a two count. OK, that should have been the end. Come on! Bayne nailed a top rope rana. Janela came off with a double stomp from the top but Knight broke up the pinfall. Knight and Bayne battled. She speared the hell out of him. Knight came back to clothesline her over the top to the floor. Janela and Bailey battled. Janela turned him inside out with a clothesline and nailed a DVDR but Bailey kicked out at the one count. Janela nailed a superkick but Bailey escaped a package piledriver. Bailey nailed a moonsault into the knee strike. Knight tagged in and hit the UFO Splash for the pin. Hell of a tag match.
This was a great show with lots of different wrestling styles featured and all sorts of talents killing themselves to raise money for a great cause. Well worth watching.
