A new film is being prepped about the life of legendary amateur wrestler Dan Gable, considered one of the best competitors of all time.
Gable is the namesake of WWE's Chad Gable and was a massively influential wrestler in his home state of Iowa. The National Wrestling Museum in Waterloo, Iowa (which houses the Thesz/Tragos Hall of Fame) was named for Gable, who has spoken positively about professional wrestling on their website. Gable also had a cameo in the 1970s film The Wrestler starring Verne Gagne, Ed Asner and Billy Robinson.
Gable, an Olympic gold medalist, has been awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
There is currently an open casting call for roles in the film. Anyone interested can email gablecasting2026@gmail.com.
Promotional material for the film notes:
GABLE is the gripping true story of legendary Olympic gold medalist and wrestling icon, Dan Gable. In the shadow of a family tragedy, a small-town Iowa wrestler transforms his pain into purpose — rising to Olympic glory and becoming one of the greatest combat sports athletes the world has ever seen. A powerful true story of sacrifice, resilience, and legacy.
Produced by Academy Award winner Shaun Redick and written by Emmy-nominated filmmaker Jon Greenhalgh – producer of The Smashing Machine and director of Team Foxcatcher – GABLE is a rich and heart-wrenching story looking to make a big splash in the motion picture industry.
