PWInsider.com is saddened to report the passing of Kim Wood, who was the first ever Strength Coach for the NFL and worked in that capacity from 1975 to 2002. Wood was 80 years old. According to a social media post from former Cincinatti Bengal Reggie Williams, Wood passed last night.
Wood would be best known in professional wrestling circles for being a close friend and mentor to the late Brian Pillman, helping Pillman devise and create his "Loose Cannon" persona in 1995 and 1996 after they became close friends during Pillman's run with the Cincinatti Bengals. Wood, a longtime professional wrestling fan, spoke in-depth about his relationship with Pillman in Liam O'Rourke's Crazy Like A Fox: The Definitive Chronicle of Brian Pillman 20 Years Later, an excellent book about Pillman as well as the ViceTV Dark Side of the Ring episodes focused on Pillman's life.
The Bengals issued the following statement.
PWInsider.com sends our deepest condolences to Wood's family and friends.
