PAUL LEVESQUE ON ESPN'S 'GET UP' RECAP

By Mike Johnson on 2026-01-28 09:56:00

Paul Levesque appeared this morning on ESPN's Get Up to promote the 2026 WWE Royal Rumble.

Levesque appeared via Zoom as they noted he was getting ready to go to Riyadh.

Levesque said the Rumble as an event is a must-see attraction as every few minutes, a new competitor enters the fray as the match goes on over the course of an hour, so you are constantly surprised as to who is next.  This year is no different and there are a "lot of surprises."  He praised the level of talent in each of the Rumble matches, saying it's a stacked card.

They noted this will be the 39th Rumble and asked Levesque his favorite moment.  He said Shawn Michaels hanging off the ropes in 1995 when Davey Boy Smith believed he won, but Michaels pulled himself back in and made the save.

They discussed AJ Styles vs. GUNTHER this weekend.  Levesque said GUNTHER made John Cena tap out, which a lot of people took badly.  He went into promotional mode putting over the importance of the stakes in the match with Styles retiring if he loses.

Levesque said the Rumble starts the road to Wrestlemania, so this is effectively their Playoffs leading into the Superbowl.    He said everyone has been ramping up to this all year and they are bringing their "A" Game.  He said the Rumble is as big as it gets.
