I had the chance to see WWE World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk in the new horror film Night Patrol, which currently has a limited theatrical release before streaming on Shudder.
Obviously, we will hit spoiler territory here for the plot, so you've been warned.
If you are a horror film, I suspect you'll enjoy the film but it is not about jump scares and building tension. It is more about using horror to make social commentary.
If you are only planning to see it for Punk, who is billed under his real name of Phil Brooks, he more than holds his own in scenes with the leads, Jermaine Fowler and Justin Long as crooked Los Angeles Police Sargent Marcus of the LAPD Night Patrol division. His acting has obviously grown stronger since his first film Girl on The Third Floor and you'll believe the conviction in his hateful character.
Marcus is obviously a condescending, racist a-hole who kicks off the entire plot of the film manipulating a murder designed to get rival gangs at each others' throats. What is revealed over the course of the film is that all this has been done to give Night Patrol as cover to attack a housing project, because Night Patrol are all vampires, allowing them to murder for their bloodlust and also bank blood for the future.
Punk's character dies at the hands of one of the leads, being beheaded (his head is seen later on, being held aloft in the air) but it is not a big, drawn out fight scene, so if this generates a sequel, chances are Punk won't be returning.
