Former Ring of Honor Tag Team Champion and ECW star Tony Devito announced his retirement from professional wrestling last night during an ALW event in Florida, citing that his doctors have told him he cannot perform in the ring going forward after suffering a stroke in his eye.
Devito, 53 years old, was trained by Dr. D David Schultz and was a regular enhancement talent for the WWF in the early 1990s. He joined the original ECW as a member of The Baldies in latter part of that promotion's run, having a long feud with New Jack. After that promotion closed, Devito and HC Loc formed The Carnage Crew for Ring of Honor, where they were veterans working to help younger stars get better but also had a run with the ROH Tag Team belts, feuded with Special K as well as BJ Whitmer & Danny Maff. While in ROH, the team also helped create the first-ever Scramble Cage Match. In recent years, Devito had mostly worked the Florida area as he now resides there full-time. He had a training school several years ago, helping to break Bobby Fish and others into the business.
Devito intends to still help out around the business, but as of today, he's done in the ring.
