PWInsider.com is saddened to learn of the passing of legendary Director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele, especially given all accounts as of this writing are that they were killed in their home this past weekend. The case is currently being investigated and currently, a family member is a person of interest, according to reports.
While this is but a small speck in the vast work Reiner accomplished in the entertainment industry, within the pro wrestling circles, Reiner would be best known for casting WWE Hall of Famer Andre the Giant as Fezzik in Reiner's 1987 film The Princess Bride. The role brought Andre's name to the masses beyond professional wrestling and made him eternally known to film fans as that movie has been continously loved for generations. A musical version of the film has been in development for the stage in recent years.
Billy Crystal's interactions with Andre making the movie helped inspired Crystal's own 1998 film My Giant.
PWInsider.com sends our deepest condolences.
