PWInsider.com is saddened to report that Robbie Ellis (real name Robert Jason Elowitch), a well known New England-area independent wrestler who received attention for being an art dealer that dabbled in professional wrestling passed away at 82 years old on 8/7.
Ellias was profiled in the 2010 documentary Canvasman and also featured in countless media outlets, including MTV's True Life, Sports Illustrated and The Today Show on NBC for owning the prestigious Barridoff Galleries in South Portland, Maine while also performing as a pro wrestler at an advanced age.
Ellis performed for countless promotions in the Northeast including New England Championship Wrestling, CHIKARA (where he was the storyline owner at one point), IWE and Showcase Pro Wrestling, among others.
