Have you watched WWE Unreal? If so, what did you think?
I watched Episode 1 while I was on the treadmill and I thought it was interesting and well done. I think it wasn’t too deep for non-fans but gave nuggets to the hardcore fans so it had appeal to both groups. I enjoyed it.
Would it shock you to hear that certain people (AEW Fans) were trashing WWE Unreal on social media?
Sadly, no it wouldn’t. Tribalism rears its ugly head again. To me, if you love AEW and hate WWE, watch AEW! If you love WWE and hate AEW, watch WWE! The people that get mired in the muck and bitch and moan like petulant children are incels for a reason.
I have been so impressed with TNA as a product since it reemerged. Is it safe to assume they have become the #3 wrestling company in the United States? I certainly feel they’ve ascended to that spot right behind AEW. Your thoughts?
I think that is a fair statement as long as you include NXT under the WWE banner. If you argued that from a product standpoint that they are number two, ahead of AEW, I could see your point as well. TNA has better storytelling than AEW so if that element is important to you, I could see how you would feel that way.
Just finished watching Unreal. It was interesting at times - loved that neat editing trick they did for the Rumble, and it was interesting to see how Gorilla operates (poor Abyss). It’s obvious that it’s still being run through the WWE machine in terms of the story they want us to see but was fun nonetheless. But what’s up with Travis Scott? He was featured so much that they even included him in the Cena heel turn planning (according to HH) but after his WM “run in” he hasn’t been mentioned at all. Even during Unreal it was odd how they dropped him in the mix without explaining WHY he was involved then he came backstage and everyone but HH either ignored or side eyed him. Were people in Gorilla as ticked at him for taking an hour to get to the ring as I was? I had heard there were plans for him moving forward, is that still the case? Not that I’d mind if he vanished- I think he messed up two consecutive main events - but they had him so randomly featured with no explanation so his absence and lack of follow up is a bit bush league.
Sometimes things don’t work out and in my opinion, Scott was horrible. I have no problem with him going away and WWE not addressing it. I appreciate them owning a mistake and moving on. I didn’t need an explanation as to why a guy who failed miserably isn’t brought back. Just let him go away, fine by me. And what is wrong with them showing you the story that they want you to see? That is what they should be doing!
Ticket sales for the first two-night SummerSlam have not met expectations so far, according to WrestleTix. Would you attribute this to the ever-rising ticket prices, or some other factor? And, if ticket sales end up far below expectations, do you think it might cause WWE to rethink their decision to continue hosting two-night SummerSlam events in the future?
If you go back to the spring, we saw that WrestleMania tickets didn’t explode the way that they did previously either. People made the point that it was Easter weekend and Las Vegas is a city that most of the country has to travel a good distance to get to (which I know first hand since I go back and forth from the east coast to LV four times a year). SummerSlam is in the New York metro area, which does not have those issues. Tens of millions of people can drive there in a few hours. To me, the biggest factor is the price of the tickets. They are super expensive and they are definitely pricing some fans out of being able to go to shows. It could also be that fans only think one show deserves two nights but it’s hard to know with the ticket prices being so high. That is the primary factor in my view. But if they do 50,000 both nights, at those prices, I think that they will call that a win.
