7/25 NJPW G1 CLIMAX RESULTS FROM TOKYO, JAPAN

By James Kurokawa on 2025-07-25 16:30:00

From Ota City, Tokyo, Japan:

Gabe Kidd's preview tag match was canceled for this card.    New Japan had an update on Gabe Kidd's health status as of July 23, which said Kidd could return to compete.   As of the time of this recap, no status of Gabe Kidd was reported on http://www.NJPW1972.com.

The schedule on New Japan's website has removed Gabe Kidd from the remaining G1 Climax events.

1 - Shoma Kato and YOSHI-HASHI vs. Jakob Austin Young and Great O-Khan

Young pins Kato after hitting Jakob's Ladder.

2 - Jado and El Phantasmo vs. Hartley Jackson and Zack Sabre Jr.

ELP pins Jackson with a cradle and a bridge.

3 - Tomoaki Honma and Shota Umino vs. Yoshinobu Kanemaru and Ren Narita

Narita blasts Honma in the face with the push-up bar, behind the referee's back.   Narita pins Honma.

4 - Daiki Nagai and Shingo Takagi vs. Rocky Romero and Konosuke Takeshita

Romero traps Nagai in the El Diablo submission to get the win.

G1 Climax 35 A Block Matches:

5 - Boltin Oleg vs. SANADA

SANADA goes for a Shining Wizard, but Oleg catches him and powers him up on his shoulders and hits the Kamikaze.

Oleg pins SANADA.

Boltin Oleg has 6 points.

SANADA has 2 points.

6 - Yuya Uemura vs. Callum Newman

Uemura pins Newman after a Deadbolt Suplex.

Yuya Uemura has 4 points.

Callum Newman has 2 points.

7  - Taichi vs. EVIL

EVIL escapes Black Mephisto and hits Reverse Evil.    EVIL pins Taichi.

EVIL has 6 points.

Taichi has 4 points.

8 - Yota Tsuji vs. Ryohei Oiwa

Good match.  They trade finishers for two counts.   Tsuji avoided The Grip and trapped Oiwa in a modified back slide.

Tsuji pins Oiwa.

Yota Tsuji has 6 points.

Ryohei Oiwa has 4 points.

9 - Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. David Finlay

Another good match.  Tanahashi hits a High Fly Flow and Finlay kicks out.  Tanahashi goes for another High Fly Flow but Finlay gets his knees up.   They trade strikes.   Finlay goes for Overkill but Tanahashi reverses into a small package.

Tanahashi pins Finlay.

Hiroshi Tanahashi has 4 points.

David Finlay has 2 points.

Three wrestlers remained tied for the lead at 6 points in the A Block.   Hiroshi Tanahashi in second place with 4 points, but Tanahashi is in the main event position for multiple A Block nights on the tour.  With Tanahashi in the main event position, New Japan can hope that fans will pay to see The Ace in his final G1 Climax.   However, Tanahashi does not need to win this tournament, nor does he need a match for any title at this point.  The newer stars need to be showcased right now.

It is also a disappointment that Gabe Kidd has been injured and remains the Global Heavyweight Champion.   He was gaining in popularity and support from the Japan crowd and now his momentum is cut off before it could really begin.
