It’s Wednesday, and AEW Dynamite is live from Chicago, IL, at the Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom. Our commentary team is Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, and Taz.
Adam Page is on his way to the ring, and Renee Paquette asks him about his upcoming match. MJF cuts him off and says he will not need to use the contract to get the title away from Page.
Adam Page (AEW World Champion) vs. Wheeler Yuta – Eliminator Match
Yuta attacks Page before the bell after coming through the crowd. As the bell rings, Page beats down Yuta in the corner as we are shown the Death Riders attacking Colt Cabana on Collision last week. Page tosses Yuta into the barricades on the floor. Page rolls him into the ring and then tosses Yuta backward and hits a running boot in the corner. Page beats down Yuta in the corner but runs into a back elbow. Page grabs Yuta and hits a Death Valley Driver for two. Page tries for a Deadeye, but Yuta grabs the ropes to block it and then gouges Page’s eyes.
Page gets a clothesline and follows with a Buckshot Lariat for the pin and the win.
Winner: Adam Page
Page grabs a chain he brought to ringside and beats Yuta with it wrapped around his fist. He then wraps the chain around Yuta’s neck and threatens to hang him over the top rope. Page says no one is coming to save Yuta and leaves him on the mat, busted open.
We then get a promo from the back from Athena and Billie Starkz. Athena tells Billie to take Toni Storm out and then tells Toni that her movie is almost over.
FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler) w/ Stokely Hathaway vs. Jetspeed (Speedball Mike Bailey and Kevin Knight) – Tag Team Tournament Match
Stokely comes to the ring with a crutch after being speared by Adam Copeland last week.
FTR attacks Jetspeed as soon as the bell rings, knocking Knight off the apron and beating down Speedball in the corner. They go for a Shatter Machine right off the bat, but Speedball is able to block it, and he gets a German suplex on Dax with Knight’s help. Jetspeed dives onto FTR on the floor. Dax is rolled back into the ring, and he lays in LOUD chops on Speedball. Dax whips Speedball into FTR’s corner with his vest.
Dax beats down Speedball with chops and strikes. Dax knocks Speedball to the floor and tries for a piledriver on the floor, but Speedball turns it into a back body drop. Speedball gets a back body drop on Cash as well as we go to picture-in-picture.
When we return to full screen, Cash is trying to get a superplex on Knight, but Knight pushes him off. Speedball gets a hurricanrana on Cash on another turnbuckle, and they nail FTR with a double dropkick. Knight gets a pendulum DDT on Dax for two. Knight hits a shoulder tackle on Dax, and Speedball dives onto Cash on the floor. Knight covers Dax for two.
Knight and Dax fight on the apron, and Dax gets a dragon screw in the ropes. Dax gets another dragon screw in the ring. Dax pulls Knight to the corner to wrap his knee around the ring post. Dax also interacts with the crowd while setting up the ring post attack. Dax gets a figure four on the ring post, and Speedball gets a series of kicks to make Dax break the hold. Cash gets a dragon screw on Speedball on the floor.
Inside the ring, Knight grabs a small package for two. Dax gets a sharpshooter on Knight in the ring, and Cash locks one on Speedball on the floor. Knight gets to the ropes for a break. Dax puts Knight on the top, and FTR sets for a powerplex. Knight gets his knee up to nail Cash. Speedball gets a shooting star from the top on Dax. Knight covers for two as we go to picture-in-picture.
When we return to full screen, Speedball gets a sunset flip on Dax for two. Dax and Speedball fight on the apron. He knocks down Dax and then knocks Cash off the apron. Speedball dodges a baseball slide from Dax and hits a backflip onto both members of FTR. Speedball rolls through a hurricanrana from Dax and then hits a backflip knee strike on Dax for two. Knight tags in. Dax is put on Speedball’s shoulders. Knight knocks him off with a dropkick and covers for two, and Knight is pulled out of the ring by Cash.
Speedball leaps over the barricade into Cash in the timekeeper’s area. Dax gets a small package on Knight for two. Dax tries a springboard powerbomb, and Knight turns it into a hurricanrana for two. Dax gets a slingshot bomb on Speedball, but Knight grabs Dax for a two count. Dax gets a roll-up and grabs onto Stokely’s crutch for extra leverage as he gets the pin and the win.
Winners and advancing: FTR
Tony Schiavone comes into the ring to interview FTR, and Stokely says Adam Copeland should be in prison and badmouths him until we get Adam’s music and he comes to the stage with a mic.
Stokely says Adam can’t be in the vicinity of FTR. He says he forgot about that, but he made a business deal to do what he can’t—and their business is hurting people.
This brings out the Hurt Syndicate. MVP shakes Adam’s hand and takes Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin’s title belts. Lashley and Benjamin hit the ring and start the beatdown, and the referees try to pull them apart. They aren’t able to do so. As FTR is beaten down, the Hurt Syndicate heads to the back. Adam goes after Stokely, but Stokely pulls a security guard to take the spear.
Nick Wayne, Kip Sabian, and Mother Wayne say they have explained themselves, and now it’s time to back up those words physically. On Saturday, they will show they are the most dangerous faction in AEW now that they are uncaged.
We then get a pre-taped promo from Jon Moxley. He says he was surprised by Page and he will have to keep getting up and doing it again. Mox says he won’t complain about it, but Page shouldn't avoid a rematch. Mox says he made a mistake, and tonight, he will start fixing it.
Will Ospreay is here and has something to say. Tony Schiavone is in the ring to hold the mic. Will says he flew here on his own and just wants five minutes to talk to everyone. He says his neck has given him problems for the last ten months. He’s been keeping it to himself, and that was a bad thing to do. When the Death Riders attacked him, the ER said he has two herniated discs. He says it is treatable and he should be back for Forbidden Door.
We then get a hype video that Thekla has joined Julia Hart and Skye Blue.
Renee is in the back with Willow Nightingale. Willow says she had Thekla pinned last week, and if Thekla’s spider sense is tingling, that is Willow—and she can find Willow in the middle of the ring.
Renee is now with the Hurt Syndicate, and MJF shows up and asks why they are with Cope. MVP says they are in the business of hurting people and Cope is business. MJF starts to complain, and Lashley grabs MJF and slams him against the lockers. He says they are NOT MJF’s lackeys and wants him out. The Syndicate leaves.
Toni Storm (AEW Women’s Champion) vs. Billie Starkz – Eliminator Match
They lock up, and Starkz forces them to the ropes and throws a right hand. Storm gets a sunset flip for two. Storm rolls Starkz up for two again. Storm gets a shoulder tackle followed by a basement dropkick and then a backbreaker. Storm dances a bit and then gets a monkey flip on Starkz in the corner. Starkz puts Storm on the top and lays in a chop. Starkz gets a leg sweep and then kicks Storm to the floor before diving onto her.
Starkz gets a senton on Storm on the floor and keeps checking on what Athena is thinking. She rolls Storm into the ring and hits a German suplex for two as we go to picture-in-picture.
When we return to full screen, Starkz slams Storm’s head into the top turnbuckle, but Storm lays in Mongolian chops and then a Thesz Press. Starkz gets an enzuigiri, and Storm is able to get a powerbomb for two when Starkz comes off the ropes. Starkz gets a high kick, a neckbreaker, and covers for two. Storm gets a fisherman’s buster with a bridge for two, and Starkz follows with a pump kick. Storm gets a victory roll for two, and Starkz reverses it for two. Storm is able to get the hip attack in the corner. Starkz gets a back body drop and sits down with it for two.
Starkz gets an enzuigiri in the corner and goes to the top. She goes for a senton from the top, but Storm gets the knees up. Storm grabs the TCM Chicken Wing and Starkz has to tap out.
Winner: Toni Storm
Starkz grabs the title from the ref and nails Storm with it and waves for Athena to come to the ring. Starkz knocks the referee out of the ring. Athena makes it to the ring and starts a beatdown on Storm.
Starkz rolls the ref into the ring as Athena is getting the contract ready. Alex Windsor attacks Athena. Athena escapes as Alex beats down Starkz.
Swerve Strickland w/ Prince Nana vs. Hechicero w/ Don Callis
Don Callis does Hechicero’s introduction. He then joins commentary.
They trade armbars and wristlocks before running the ropes. Hechicero picks the leg while Swerve leaps over him. They go back to wristlocks, and Hechicero gets an armdrag. They do mat work with neither gaining the upper hand. Swerve grabs an abdominal stretch, and Hechicero is able to break free. Hechicero slaps Swerve, and Swerve answers with one of his own. Hechicero gets a Mad Scientist Bomb and then works Swerve over in the corner.
Swerve is able to get a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker into a vertical suplex as we go to picture-in-picture.
When we return to full screen, they are throwing hands back and forth. Hechicero gets a slam for a one-count. Swerve calls for Hechicero to keep coming. Swerve takes a couple of strikes and then kicks down Hechicero. Swerve gets a back elbow in the corner and then a leaping uppercut from the top rope. Swerve gets a corkscrew kick and then a 450 splash for two.
Hechicero gets a flipping sleeper attack on Swerve and switches to the Juji Gatame, and Swerve breaks free. Hechicero gets a leg lock roll-up for two. Swerve kicks free of Hechicero’s grasp and then hits a rolling DDT. Swerve goes to the top, and Lance Archer shoves Swerve off the top.
Winner by DQ: Swerve Strickland
Brody King and Bandido show up to attack Hechicero and Archer. As Swerve is watching, Kazuchika Okada nails Swerve in the back with a chair. Swerve nails Okada with a headbutt and wraps a chair around Okada’s head. Okada quickly escapes and leaves Swerve in the ring.
In the back, Alicia Atout is with Ricochet and the Gates of Agony, and he says they are to be called GOA from now on. He says they will be using the money they won last week in their quest for gold.
MJF is on his way to the ring and has a mic and an attitude. He says he doesn’t need Bobby Lashley and says that Adam Page is a coward. Before he can say anything else, Mark Briscoe comes to the stage. Mark says he wants to shove the mic up MJF’s behind, but they will dock his paycheck since they’ll never get it back. He then reminds us that MJF stole his pin in the battle royal and says they need to fight it out in the ring next week.
MJF says no. MJF says if Mark was supposed to win, he could have. But when the pressure is on, Mark loses—and he wins. He says everyone loves Mark, but he doesn’t. He says people love him because he looks goofy and makes everyone feel warm and fuzzy inside, but not even Mark’s biggest fans think he’s a top guy. He then says that people did respect his brother.
This makes Mark charge the ring, and MJF bails. MJF holds up the contract and taunts Mark from the stage.
Mark Briscoe vs. Claudio Castagnoli
They lock up, and Claudio forces Mark to the corner where he lays in a big chop. They lock up again, and Mark forces them to the corner and they trade chops. They move to uppercuts and then forearms. Claudio finally gets the upper hand and they run the ropes. Mark knocks Claudio off his feet and then forces him to the corner for stomps and strikes.
Claudio gets snake eyes on the top turnbuckle and then beats down Mark in the corner. Mark is whipped to the corner, and they fight through the ropes on the apron. They run the ropes and Mark gets a quick series of strikes and then clotheslines Claudio to the floor. Mark tries for a dropkick, but Claudio catches him and swings him back and forth into the barricade as we go to picture-in-picture.
When we return to full screen, Claudio is beating down Mark in the corner and puts him on top. Claudio joins him there and they trade chops. Mark leaps and Claudio nails him with an uppercut for two. We then see Darby Allin is in the crowd. Mark starts firing shots at Claudio and gets a flying elbow strike off the ropes. Mark gets a clothesline in the corner and they trade waistlocks. Mark gets an enzuigiri and an exploder for two.
Claudio is knocked to the floor, and Mark gets a cannonball dive onto him. He then hits an elbow from the announcer’s table onto Claudio. Mark then gets a flipping DDT from the barricade. Mark goes to the top and hits the Froggie Bo on Claudio after Claudio is rolled into the ring for two. Claudio drives Mark into the corner and then runs into a back elbow from Mark.
They fight on the top, and Mark gets dropped on the top rope crotch-first. Claudio gets an avalanche body slam for two. Claudio gets an eye poke and an uppercut for two. Mark grabs a small package for the pin and the win.
Winner: Mark Briscoe
Marina Shafir hits Mark with a chop block from behind, and Mox shows up with a mic. He says Page isn’t the champion yet. Mark is dropped on a chair by Claudio, and Page comes to the ring. Mox and Yuta are in the ring.
Page says that when Mox says he isn’t the champion and can’t handle the pressure, he thinks Mox believes it. He will prove it to Mox. Next week, Hangman vs. Mox for the World Championship. Page says Mox is a challenger; he will play by Page’s rules: everyone banned from ringside.
