I was wondering if you received any feedback regarding your piece on wrestler security?
Yes, I heard from a lot of people within WWE and AEW and they all - from wrestlers to staff - agreed with the piece and that it's something that needs to be worked on, especially for female talents. They understood I was hitting all several different areas of fandom that get obsessive and cross the line - whether it be social media, fans who can't understand boundaries or fans who assume these talents should service their need for attention no matter the place or time of day or level of privacy being violated. It's something I worry about regularly for talents.
Has the move to streaming changed how wrestlers get paid? Do they get residuals now?
Nope. No change. Not at all. Not yet, anyway. I assume sooner or later, a rep for one of the top stars will attempt to get that revenue stream created for their client and if they do, it may change the world, but I haven't heard even an inkling of that potentially happening at that time.
Do you think AEW will sell out their complete residence at the 2300 Arena?
It's possible but not guaranteed. I think the first shows will be automatic sellouts given the place is a destination for die-hard fans and there will absolutely be fans who will be excited about going there to see AEW in there. I think as they move further into the residency, they'll need to rely on locals more. So we'll see. I guess AEW could have sold a package to the complete run of shows if they wanted to guarantee fans come to everything and get the same seats every time, like the original ECW did.
Am I wrong to think it's weird there's been no Hulk Hogan appearances or even videos on social media given his health woes?
No, not at all. He's obviously been under the radar while dealing with his health issues post-surgery. It's natural to wonder. I just don't have any additional insight as I write this.
There was talk that perhaps MLP was going to get TV? Any word?
I would assume that's something Scott D'Amore is trying to put together, but I haven't heard anything definitive. I would believe that's the goal, at least locally in Canada.
