TONY KHAN TALKS AEW ALL IN: TEXAS, CREATIVE CONTROL, LIVE GATE, INJURIES AND MORE; MEDIA CALL HIGHLIGHTS

By Mike Johnson on 2025-07-08 17:03:00

AEW President Tony Khan took part in a media call today ahead of All In; Texas.  Highlights:

When asked about the lawsuit involving Jon Moxley and concerns around safety protocols, Khan declined to comment on any legal matters. He emphasized that AEW prioritizes safety and that wrestlers and staff work closely together on those protocols.

Regarding speculation about Mercedes Moné’s level of creative control, Khan stated that he was the "only person with creative control over the show" and has been the final say on all creative since AEW was created.  He referenced a personal resolution he made going into 2020—and again in 2025, to only pursue ideas he believes in, avoiding being "dragged to the finish line" on concepts that don’t align with his vision.  Khan said there are fewer voices now than in many years and the company is the most focused and best it has been in years because of it.

Khan was asked whether AEW might run an annual event in a North American MLB stadium, potentially leveraging his TruMedia relationships. He praised the Texas Rangers and their front office and said that if AEW's momentum continues, such an event is “a possibility,” adding he has had discussions with TruMedia clients about the idea.

On the topic of Omega vs. Okada at All In, Khan noted that he has never suggested retiring the Continental or International titles. He said the winner of the upcoming Okada vs. Omega match may opt to carry all three belts. He emphasized that the newly introduced Unified Title signifies the importance of that bout and confirmed that the lineages of the existing titles will remain intact. He also confirmed that the Continental Classic tournament will return.

Asked about surprises in the upcoming Casino Gauntlet matches, Khan teased that the spotlight will be on talents who have been on AEW programming of late.

When questioned about AEW stars like MJF branching into Hollywood, Khan expressed pride in MJF’s success. He said roles like that benefit both the individual and AEW as a whole, and praised MJF’s contributions.

On Britt Baker’s AEW status, Khan confirmed our report last week shooting down that she was exiting.  “I’ve never had a conversation about her leaving AEW.”   Using a sports analogy, Khan noted that not every talented wrestler can be featured as a “starter,” at all times but emphasized AEW’s depth, saying there is a strong bench of talent that can be activated when needed. He said the company has been focused on delivering a streamlined show with a core group of performers.

Khan confirmed that both Thunder Rosa and Athena are expected to appear at Supercard of Honor and All In.

I asked Khan about the live gate in Arlington.  He stated All In is nearing a $3 million gate and continues to grow larger. He anticipates strong walk-up sales and noted that good seats are still available.

Jamie Hayter’s extended absence has led to several talent shifts, including “call-ups” from ROH such as Queen Aminata. Injuries have also impacted the ROH Women’s Pure Title Tournament, including Women’s TV Champion Red Velvet. She will not be able to defend the title at Supercard of Honor.  They will have an interim champion..

Khan denied there were ever any plans for Supercard of Honor to be held in Las Vegas (presumably over Wrestlemania weekend.)
