6/29 WRESTLING REVOLVER TEXAS TITLE TOURNAMENT REPORT

By David Houston on 2025-06-30 12:47:00

The Wrestling REVOLVER had a special event in Bedford, Tx in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area, working with Metroplex Wrestling, holding a tournament for their new Texas Title.

Cody Cox and Tyler Foster on commentary. They're a nice team.

In the first match of the first round of the Texas title tournament, KJ Orso, the former Fuego del Sol, was victorious over Vert Vixen in a solid bout.  Orso is a pretty good heel and for a guy who wore a mask for years, he's got good facial expressions.

ROH Women's champion Athena, an owner of Metroplex Wrestling, makes an announcement of a new Women's wrestling show, starting Aug. 9.

Brick Savage advanced to the next round of the tournament, defeating a very game Exodus Prime, a frequent foe on the Texas scene.  I was surprised at how much of this Prime dominated over "The World Breaker" but he definitely controlled most of the match.  Savage finally landed a stiff backbreaker and pulled out the win.

VIP Champion (another Texas based promotion) "The Feature Presentation" JD Griffey beat "The Leader of the Pack" Stephen Wolf, making his WR debut, to advance to the second round of the title tournament.  Solid match that was focused on Wolf trying to overcome a concentrated left leg attack from Griffey.  Griffey got the win switching from attacking the leg to locking in a rear naked choke and getting the ref stoppage win. Solid.

Damo McCullough was scheduled to face Matthew Palmer but Palmer was unable to participate so he faced the last minute substitute, Delynn Cavens.
More solid work. No one was trying to blow folks away in these first round matches since at least one would have another match and two of them would have 2 more matches.  The much smaller Cavens took something of a beating but absorbed and rolled through a Mad Dog powerslam and hooked both legs on McCullough to get the surprise pin, advancing to the second round.

After some mic work, putting himself over as a better Texan than anyone in the crowd, AJ Francis of First Class successfully defended his WR Remix title in his first defense of his newly won title in an Open Invite Scramble match, beating back a host of Tx based stars: stable mates Demo Diamond and LVJ, Adam Green, Gabe Wilder, Josiah Jean, Phil Noir and Sky de Lacrimosa.

What you would expect from a multi man match but with a lot of focus on the various stars targeting Francis.  They needed more Texans. Francis got Diamond one on one and stopped him with a Down Payment chokeslam.

Griffey advances to the finals, beating Cavens. Cavens tried relying on speed and smarts and held his own but Griffey did a fall away arm snap after a package shoulder breaker for the cover and the pin. Strong finish.

Savage, having to work through punishment from his previous match, overcame a determined Orso to advance to the finals.  Showing some poor sportsmanship, Orso attacks Savage after the match with a steel chair until Vert Vixen makes the save.  Hot angle. I like this version of the former Fuego del Sol.

In a...special Two Count Challenge (every time a team gets a 2 count, they have to take a shot of tequila) Tye or Die (KJ Reynolds, Ryan Matthias), the only other WR regulars beside Francis on the show, defeated Sons of Mayhem (Big J, Redd Chambers) and Surf and Turf (Phil Shark, Braddah Kaimi).
This was a bad idea.  Don Cato, some big masked guy who supposedly sponsored the tequila, got involved and beat up everybody and I can't think of anything quite as horrifying is 6 guys having to work while drunk off tequila (even in kayfabe).  ToD won. Don't worry about it.

Griffey tried to get the smart win, attacking Savage with a kendo stick before the match and hoping to either knock Savage out of the match or have the World Breaker so beaten down, they would be easy pickings.  Didn't work out. The ref got Savage to their feet, rang the bell and Griffey ran right into a Black Hole Slam with Savage immediately finishing him with heavy ground and pound forearms, forcing the ref to stop the match.  Clever finish but the execution was just off a bit. The ref was pulling Savage off without ringing the bell so there was no reason for Savage to stop using a totally legal strike.
A little muddled but a good try.

Overall a decent show, far more a showcase of Metroplex/DFW talent than a normal REVOLVER show but a good showcase, particularly for Orso, Cavens, Griffey and Savage, who really got to do more than be a monster.
