The easy answer is they don't care about that and they believe using him will sell tickets and make them money. They are all about squeezing out every last penny for profit.

I believe you are thinking about Night and The City, an excellent noir film from 1950 starring Richard Wiidmark as Harry Fabian, a London con man with a million and one scams. He realizes the money that can be made in pro wrestling and quickly takes to legendary wrestler Gregarious the Great, played by the legendary Stanislaus Zbyszko, who is awesome in the film.
