Sitting here and watching Smackdown and I just can't believe what WWE pulled. I don't know if I'm alone here in saying this, but doing a fake injury distraction angle after what just happened to Zoey Stark comes off as horribly bad taste. Why would anyone think that was appropriate?
Injuries happen. It was definitely unfortunate but I understand why WWE doesn’t upend their plans because of the injury. They have things that they want to accomplish. I understand that it bothered you but it didn’t even cross my mind until you sent the question.
It's got to be a shock for AEW to go from a 14K crowd in Mexico for Dynamite on Wednesday to less than 2K on Saturday for Collision. In fact, the two highest-attended AEW shows this year were held in other companies/countries, with 16K for Wrestle Dynasty in NJPW. And with so many high-profile defections this year, it's obvious that talent views AEW as a steppingstone to a more favorable deal in the WWE. So, is this just what AEW is now? A bigger, better funded TNA? Because that is definitely not what their fanbase signed up for.
They are the clear number two company, for sure. I know some hack pundits try and assert otherwise, but the numbers don’t lie. They are distant second to WWE. The sad thing is that they don’t have to be that far behind. If Tony Khan would bring in a competent booker and market less to the sickos, he could draw some of the wrestling fans that currently don’t support his product. The fact that they can do big crowds abroad should tell Khan that he has something good to sell back home. I hope that he finally gets that message.
If you were a WWE wrestler, would you want to go to Saudi Arabia right now?
No, but to be honest it’s because I wouldn’t want to go to Saudi Arabia any time. While the country has made some strides in being less draconian, they still haven’t gotten to the point where I would want to go there.
Liv Morgan’s injury is a real bummer. Is there any silver lining in the dark cloud?
Liv was on fire when she got hurt, for sure. She has become a top star for WWE. I guess the only bright side for her is that her body will get some rest while she rehabs. It does create an opportunity for Roxanne Perez, but that doesn’t do much for Liv.
There are a lot of annoying terms that announcers use. Is there one that bugs you?
There a few, for sure, but “vertical base” is the one I really hate.
