So, does WWE have some kind of Logan's Run countdown on wrestler's careers now? Seems like if you are in your mid-to-late 40's, you aren't going to get a new deal, no matter what your standing is in the company. Lashley, MVP, Corbin, now R-Truth and Carlito, all on the wrong side of 40/50, none offered new contracts. I know there's the argument that wrestlers should be winding down their careers at that stage, and now that I'm in my 50s I can't imagine taking bumps or lifting weights daily like these people do. And I know there are only so many spots as trainers, producers, or in creative to go around. Still, you can't feel good if you're an older wrestler in WWE with a contract coming to an end, can you?
It comes down to the value WWE sees in you. Randy Orton still has a deal. CM Punk still has a deal. LA Knight still has a deal. They are all over 40. One thing you need to remember is that the longer someone has been there, the higher their deal is. WWE decided that the names that you mentioned weren’t worth what they would have to pay them. Obviously they changed direction on Truth, but he is the exception, not the rule.
What do you think are HHH’s top 5 shortcomings as a Booker are? Do you think HHH is aware of these flaws we see? Which do you think is the biggest booking flaw out the 5 is a “must fix”?
HHH has always booked in a way that I enjoy, going back to his NXT days. I don’t see 5 flaws in his booking. The only one I could mention was getting too cute sometimes, like he did with Jey Uso and Rhea Ripley leading into WrestleMania. Luckily, he found his mojo and got them back on track.
What does WWE need to do to get fans more invested in the show. The crowd looks like a bunch of people in the audience for Jeopardy. With the exception of Jey’s entrance, Seth’s song and a few others the crowd looks absolutely deflated at certain times which makes for a bad television presentation. Do you think WWE is even concerned about this as long as the $$$ is rolling in?
First I don’t think they are concerned because what you see is not what I see (and hear). I think that for the most part the fans are indeed invested in what they are watching. But if they weren’t, WWE wouldn’t be too concerned as long as they kept buying tickets.
Flair mocks JR’s cancer announcement and then has a skin cancer reoccurrence, is this karma?
It could be. Flair was totally scummy to do that.
What has your site's relationship with WWE been like over the years? Has it changed/evolved now that Vince is gone and HHH/Nick Khan/Endeavor are running things?
I would call it professional for the most part. Vince McMahon hated that we existed but others in WWE understood our role and largely treated us well. I would guess that in his perfect world no sites like ours would exist if he had his choice but media coverage is part of the business.
