The WWE has a stacked women's division but they bring back Nikki Bella and put her in the title picture with Liv Morgan on her first night back. Why? IMO she was not that great of a worker and has been away from the game, no pun intended, for a while. Do you think some of the wrestlers in the back mad that she jumped the line?
I get it, she was on the first Evolution PPV and it makes sense to bring her (and maybe her sister) in for a call back in the next one. With that said, there is no world that she should come remotely close to beating Liv if/when they face off, none.
So Triple H says that the firing of R-Truth only to bring him back a week late is “all part of the plans” (Sure, Jan). So if this incident was all part of the plans, then what exactly did this add to the story? Why can’t they just admit they were not anticipating the blacklash and underestimated his popularity. To me, that would give them more credibility than insulting the intelligence of their audience.
I have no idea, I really don’t. He had the chance to be transparent and he chose to be condescending instead. Maybe he was mad that the backlash happens, I can’t say.
Sometime ago I read a Q&A where you said the toxicity was way more heavy on the AEW fans side in all this tribalism and that you barely had any examples from the WWE side. But also a few weeks ago Samantha Irvin received a lot down votes on her music video to the point that YouTube shut it down. Not only Samantha but basically everyone who leaves WWE by their choice starts to receive a lot of hate on the internet. I personally watch both products and I think it's dumb to throw hate at another company just because you don't want to watch it. My question is, don't you think that maybe the fact that you don't enjoy AEW, sometimes can make you partial on your opinions?
No, I don’t think that. Full disclosure, I don’t wade into the muck that is social media. I don’t go to YouTube and see how many people dislike a video. I don’t waste my time like that. And if I did, I wouldn’t jump to the conclusion that WWE fans united to dislike her video because she left the company. That’s a little out there to me. The fact of the matter is that AEW is a distant second to WWE in all business metrics. The gap between them is massive. Those are facts, indisputable. I comment on what I see pretty regularly from the people that do enter my sphere. Some fans of the smaller product feel that what they like, AEW, is the best and they don’t understand why the masses don’t feel the same way so they lash out. There are a few supposed journalists that feel like those fans and do the same thing in their publications, which is completely unprofessional. I don’t see reputable people doing that for WWE.
I think there’s something special about how the WWE Universe has embraced Jacob Fatu so quickly and resoundingly. Even my 85 year old Mom LOVES Jacob Fatu! Do you think when Fatu finally gets a big main event push or a defining moment (like retiring The Rock) that his unique act could tap in the zeitgeist and make him a Stone Cold level superstar?
I have loved Jacob Fatu for years, going back to his MLW days. He has a ton of charisma, is a very believable character and can work his ass off. His future is bright for sure. With that said, being the next Steve Austin is a super high bar. I can’t say he will get THAT big.
It's insulting to me that WWE has been pushing the narrative that Michael Cole is "The Greatest of ALL TIME." Not one die-hard fan, wrestling historian, or pro wrestler would say that he's even in the Top 5. Do you agree that WWE is insulting our intelligence by thinking we buy this ridiculous proclamation? Bravo for towing the corporate line for 28 years..but that doesn't make him the best. Agree or no?
So you have talked to every diehard fan? Every historian? Every pro wrestler? No, you haven’t. I can tell you that I know a number of wrestlers that think Cole is the greatest of all time. You don’t, that’s fine. But clearly you have bias against him. Is he the greatest? That comes down to the person making the pick but just because you don’t like him doesn’t mean that the rest of the world doesn’t.
