Wrestling Open RI
6/11/25 Cranston, RI
Match 1: Marcus Mathers(c) vs Brett Ryan Gosselin (for the IWTV World Championship)
Surprisingly, BRG has a few fans in the rooms….but the rest of the crowd reminds these hobgoblins that Brett is THE WORST THE WORST THE WORST THE WORST THE WORST THE WORST THE WORST. What’s nice about Cranston is this is a WRESTLING CROWD and they are getting right into the rhythm of the match, booing Gosselin and counting off while Marcus drops bombs. Ref gets distracted by something with the ring skirt and misses BRG with a deep rollup….Brett is MAD. Brett keeps the pressure on. BRG gets a two count on the champ and he accuses the ref of bias. Marcus keeps coming back but Brett continues to put him down but can’t get the three. BRG finally gets so mad that he shoves Ref Scott….Scott shoves him him back and Mathers makes his comeback! Big blue thunder bomb for two! BRG back on top with a ripcord clothesline….Mathers fights off the unprettier…superkick connects! Broad St Buster for the win! Solid opener….BRG vs Ref is certainly going to be a problem as time goes on….BRG literally chases Scott out of the ring!
Match 2: Nick Battee vs Cappuccino Jones
Jones is making his Open RI debut as a WWE ID talent. Jones is starting hot but he slips on the ropes and Battee swarms on him. Jones is clutching his neck as Battee drops stomps and punches. The “Batteeple’s Elbow” connects. I hated typing that. Nick grabs a choke from the back but Cold Brew fights it off. Big chops, a springboard connects this time! CRAZY folding German! Battle reverses the Decaffeinator, hits a northern lariat and a scissor kick for the win! WHAT A WIN FOR BATTEE!
Match 3: Sam Holloway vs Love Doug
Oh man, I’m torn here. Love me some Cupid Douglas….but I love seeing Holloway beat people up. Sam wants nothing to do with love. Nothing to do with flower petals….or smooches. Holloway very much the big man swinging and missing as Doug quickly out moves him. But when Sam gets his hands on Doug? Doug gets launched. Big elbows, clotheslines and a running boot to the head takes any momentum Doug had going for him away. Doug tries for the Bulldoug but Hollowway shoves him off and hits a running dropkick. The crowd rallies behind our Cupid. Holloway wants a top rope clothesline….Doug reverses into a Slice of Love off the top for the win! Another surprisingly upset win!
Match 4: Gal vs Bobby Orlando
Orlando is stepping in for Jermaine Marbury tonight, who is out with an injury (heal up, Jermaine!). Gal is showing off his powerful gym physique as he dominates Orlando and tries to humiliate him early. Bobby still landing clean though and gets a two off a neck breaker. Gal with a buckle bomb and a discus lariat! Nick Battee is on commentary and loving how this is going for his gym bro. Bobby fights off a superplex….sick trick drop kick! Bobby is tired but still swinging. Bobby slam connects! Orlando goes for the Dab Elbow but Nick Battee leaves commentary to crotch Bobby on the top rope. Gal is DQ’d but the pair of them (MINT) beat down Bobby after the bell, hitting a fireman’s carry cutter combo.Gal grabs the mic. Just what the crowd wants. MINT invite Bobby to find a partner to face them in a tag match next week.
it’s announcement time…..OPEN IS HAVING A TRIOS TOURNAMENT! The Von Erich 6-Man Tag Team Classic! Starting June 19th in Worcester!!!
Match 5: Ice Williams vs TJ Crawford
TJ is getting a huge test against a WWE ID talent debut before his Open title shot against Bryce Donovan this week. Denver Colorado makes a point to interview TJ at the entryway, he tells TJ to watch his back against Williams. Don’t look past him. TJ promises to kick Ice’s head off….but on Thursday? Crawford delivers an impassioned promo, promising to put Donovan down before we get to the match. A cool change to the normal format but poor Ice had to just stand in the ring while TJ talked about a different match entirely. We get to the bell ringing. Hot competitive match, TJ keeps trying to set up that kill shot but Ice kept slamming him away. Finally the silver bullet connects and a shining wizard puts Williams down for the three! Hot crowd for this.
Match 6: Dustin Waller vs Anthony Greene
Dustin Waller and Kylon King cashed in on the Max Caster 50k bounty on Ichiban and they’ve been persona non grata with the crowd since. Waller foolishly gets into a chop battle with AG. Waller stays on the attack, trying to grind Greene down with a choke. AGAIN with some quick reversal, proving their plenty of gas in his tank. Dustin hits the buckles and immediately clutches his knee. Ref Gina backs AG off as Dustin angrily pounds the mat in the corner. And while Ref Gina is tending to him….there’s Kylon King to provide a distraction. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE AGREEMENT THEY WOULD LEAVE THEIR PARTNERS AT HOME?!? Dustin pops right back up and catches Greene with an Ichi Bankai for the three! BOOOOOO!
Main Event: Shooter Boys (Aaron Ortiz & Anthony Vecchio) and Brando Lee vs Bryce Donovan, Vinny Scalise, Jariel Rivera & Smart Mark Sterling
A 4-on-3 main event with the Open champion’s faction having the numbers advantage. If tonight’s theme has been David vs Goliath matches….Lee & the Shooter Boys have a HELL of a mountain to climb. Ortiz pretty much walks through Rivera to start the match, well known as the weak link/useful simp of Donovan’s crew. Vecchio doesn’t fare quite as well against Scalise initially but a quick tag lets them shine with their tag team combinations. It may be a 4-man team but Sterling doesn’t look very willing to get in there. Bryce likes what he perceives to be easy work and he glad tags in to toss Ortiz around easily. Vecchio takes his shit but Bryce send him back looking for a tag too. In comes Brando Lee and it’s time to pick their rivalry back up….nah, Bryce tags Sterling in. Sterling wastes so much time that the crowd chants YOU CAN’T WRESTLE at him. This gets right under Mark’s skin and he almost costs the match for his team standing outside arguing with fans. Bryce Donovan in there with a black hole slam and of COURSE, Sterling finally goes on the attack. Lee eats a long beatdown as Bryce’s crew just tags in and out and lays it in. Lee gets the Shooter Boys in there but the numbers game is still in effect. Ortiz eats a double chokeslam. Lee makes the save! Jackknife from Bryce onto Vecchio! Lee tags in and dives into Scalise but Sterling slides in with a chop block….Sterling goes for a piledriver…..Lee jackknife pins him for the win! Bryce and Co are SHOCKED!!!
Lee grabs the mic and says he doesn’t care if Bryce has the title next week or not….Next week, he wants Donovan in a 1-on-1 match! Bryce says he doesn’t deserve a title match…but he’s got a MATCH!
