Last year, an announced documentary on WWE Celebrity Hall of Famer Andy Kaufman was announced as being produced by The Rock's Production company, Seven Bucks.
PWInsider.com has learned the following on the project, which has completed production.
The title of the film is Andy Kaufman is Me.
The Rock as well as Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, Brian Gewirtz are listed as among the Producers.
David Letterman is credited as Executive Producer. WWE's Paul Levesque is also listed as an Executive Producer.
We are told a good bulk of the film is made up of Kaufman audio recordings that the late comedian had made as a personal journal and for the basis of a planned book. That material will see the action recreated on screen through puppetry.
Also interviewed for the project are Letterman, Carol Kane, Andy's brother Michael Kaufman and Carol Kaufman-Kerman, Andy's sister, among others.
Kaufman's love of professional wrestling and his feud with Jerry Lawler in the Memphis territory continues to live on in legend. Their appearance on Late Night with David Letterman remains one of the most talked about moments in television history.
A fictionalized version of Kaufman's life, starring Jim Carrey, Man on the Moon, was released back in 1999, featuring Jerry Lawler playing himself, Jim Ross as the ringside commentator and the late, great Lance Russell ring announcing.
Andy Kaufman passed away in 1984 following a battle with lung cancer.
