AEW DYNAMITE BEACH BREAK BLOG

By Cory Strode on 2025-05-14 23:23:00

It’s Wednesday and AEW Dynamite Beach Break is live from the one city you think of when you think of great beaches: Chicago IL at the Now Arena. Our commentary team is Excalibur, Ian Riccaboni, and Taz.

Will Ospreay and Adam Page vs Josh Alexander and Konosuke Takeshita

Don Callis joins commentary, and Taz is still irritated by him.

It’s the old “future opponents have to team up against a shared enemy”. Ospreay and Takeshita start off and we see they are evenly matched as they go back and forth. Josh tags in and the announcers highlight that Ospreay avoided tagging in Page. Josh and Takeshita work over Ospreay with quick tags, and they are able to choke him in the ropes as they taunt Page into trying to get in the ring, and the ref keeps Page from getting involved.

Ospreay is finally able to get the hot tag and Page cleans house. Page and Takeshita trade power moves and when Page gets a pop-up powerbomb on Takeshita, Page declines a tag to Ospreay. He does finally tag in Ospreay and they pause before they tag in as they work over Takeshita. They try to work together, but Takeshita and H+Josh work together better as they work together to drive Page and Ospreay to the floor for Takeshita to dive onto them.

After the commercial, Page has been the babyface in peril, and Ospreay gets the hot tag quickly and runs wild. We even get Page and Ospreay working together to hit moonsaults from the top onto Josh and Takeshita on the floor. Josh is able to get a spinning F5 when Opsreay comes off the ropes for a leaping attack.

From here we go to big finishing moves and two counts. Ospreay takes the majority of the two counts and Page has been knocked to the floor. Ospreay hands out Oz Cutters and as he goes for the Hidden Blade, Page tags himself in and they argue about it. Page goes for a buckshot and nearly hits Ospreay. Ospreay then almost hit Page with a hidden blade. They then hit Josh with a Buckshot/Hidden Blade combination for the pin and the win.

Winners: Will Ospreay and Adam Page

Page and Ospreay are face to face when Takeshita attacks them both. As all four men fight, Ospreay accidentally hits Page and the ref keeps them apart.

We then get a hype video for the main event.

Alicia Atout is with Top Flight and Dante threatened MJF. Darius calms him down and says they are coming for the tag team titles. Dustin Rhodes and Sammy Guevara are there and say they have Top Flight’s back.

Ricochet vs Zach Gowen

Ricochet comes to the ring with Zach Gowen’s prosthetic leg.

Ricochet stalls at the start of the match and then starts to leave after Gowen gets a hip toss on him. Zach is able to attack Ricochet on the floor and when Ricochet drives Gowen into the barricade, we go to picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, they have returned to the ring and Ricochet is able to take over. We get shots of Gowen’s family, and any time Ricochet gets a big move, the crowd boos him. Ricochet starts to get frustrated as Gowen keeps kicking out. Ricochet pulls out the scissors. The ref takes them away and Gowen uses his prosthetic leg on Ricochet for two. Gowen then misses the moonsault from the top.

Ricochet hits the Spirit Gun for the pin and the win.

Winner: Ricochet

Ricochet goes for a post match beat down. Mark Briscoe runs to the ring for the save, and Ricochet bails.

Renee Paquette is with MJF and he puts over how long he was AEW World Champion and he wants it back. To be All Elite means more than it ever has and he doesn’t have to work hard. He doesn’t like to wrestle if he doesn’t know he will win, and if he is with the Hurt Syndicate, they will be unbeatable. The Hurt Syndicate shows and MVP says after their match, it is imperative that he join them in the ring.

Hurt Syndicate (Bobby Lahsley and Shelton Benjamin) AEW Tag Team Champions vs Top Flight (Darius and Dante martin) w/Leila Grey - Eliminator match

Top Flight quickly move to high-flying moves that take Hurt Syndicate from surprise. It doesn’t last long as Lashley catches Dante mid-dive and spins him into the ring post. Top Flight then gets tossed around. Darius takes a beating from Lashley and Shelton as Dante recovers on the floor.

Darius is finally able to get a tag after an insigiri and Benjamin takes down Dante with a high knee as soon as he gets the tag. Lashley gets a spear and follows with a Hurt Lock, and the ref calls the match for the Hurt Syndicate.

Winners: Hurt Syndicate

Lashley keeps the Hurt Lock on until Dustin and Sammy show and demand they let Dante go. Dustin then challenge them to come out and face them. MVP says he has a lot of respect for him and because of that, they won’t leave him laying in a pool of blood. Dustin says they need to do business and it’s clear what they want.

Lio Rush and Action Andretti show and threaten Dustin and Sammy. They get in each other’s faces, and MVP says they will fight to see which tag team gets to challenge for the title.

MVP says it is time for MJF to get what's coming to him. They are doing everything in their power to make it look like MJF is about to get a beatring.  MJF does NOT come out to his music and when Shelton runs to the back, Tony Khan shows Shelton where MJF is hiding, and MJF says he was looking all over for Shelton.

MVP - Thumbs up

Shelton Benjamin - Thumbs up

Bobby puts an arm around MJF, Shelton is set for a super kick and then…

Bobby Lashley - Thumbs up

MJF leads a chant of “We hurt people” with the crowd. MVP says next week if the official contract signing of MJF into the Hurt Syndicate.

Toni Storm vs AZM vs Mina Shirakawa vs Skye Blue - Eliminator match

AZM really impressed me when I watched her matches over Mania weekend, and it’s great to see Blue back from her injury. One other thing I notice about Blue is that she has let her hair grow, and it is all the way to her waist, which makes her look different than during her time before the injury. It also gives a new visual as it flies around while she wrestles.

Storm and Blue go to the floor to brawl, AZM and Mina fight in the ring. For the starter of the match, they focus on AZM and Mina, who have worked together a lot in the past. They move to the floor and Storm and Blue move to the ring and Blue gets a nice spotlight showing her style again. AZM and Blue are then fighting in the ring, showing how well they brawl.

We then get Storm and Mina facing off, but it’s broken up before they can engage. Storm and Mina then echo each other as they fight with AZM and Blue. THEN we get Storm and Mina throwing hands. MIna gets a spotlight as she fights with Storm and AZM. Since Mina is now full time with AEW, it’s a good idea to start pushing her in a highly competitive women’s division. Blue gets to dive onto everyone as we go to picture in picture.

When they return to full screen, everyone is on the mat after a flurry of suplexes. They slowly get to their feet and throw hands again. We get down to Mina and Blue for a short time before Storm and AZM get suplexes and then Storm takes out AZM with a suplex and fires hip attacks at all of the other women. Everyone is able to get a kick or strike on Storm after Storm misses her attack on AZM.

From here we move to pin attempts being broken up. They have a great mix of people getting big moves so that no one is dominating. MIna is able to reverse a small package for the pin and the win.

Winner and getting a women’s title match: Mina Shirakawa

After the match, Storm shows Mina the graphic on the big screen that her title match will be at Double or Nothing.

As AZM goes up the ramp, Mercedes Mone attacks her in revenge for taking the NJPW Strong Women’s title in a match Friday. Jamie Hayter comes from the back and takes out Mone and the referees pull her off.

Taz gives a short but emotional tribute to Sabu on his passing.

In the back, Renee is with MJF and MVP and MJF says he will have his lawyer Mark Sterling go over the contract. MVP is irritated and MJF says he would never sign a contract without his lawyer going over it. They shake hands.

Tony Schiavone is in the ring with Nigel McGuinness and he reminds us of what happened between Nigel and FTR. Nigel apologizes to Tony and Daniel Garcia for getting in the ring after Dax Harwood provoked him. Garcia says he can keep his apology and he did what he was supposed to do. FTR tried to end his career, Cope’s career and they will try to end Nigel's’ career as well. Garcia says he will fight FTR with or without him and asks Nigel to fight beside him.

Stokely interrupts to mock Garcia and Nigel. He asks Nigel what his problem is, and Nigel says his problem is when someone puts their hands on him, he puts his hands on them. Stokely says there will be repercussions and consequences. He says Nigel’s punishment is to be in a match with FTR because they can’t be suspended and fined for what they do in the ring.

Nigel says he turns it down, because FTR are ten time champions and he’s not a wrestler. Garcia then asks him to team up with him to face FTR. Stokley says Nigel doesn’t have to wrestle, since he’s just reliving his glory days. FTR then attack Nigel and Garcia and beat them down as they were hiding under the ring. Matt Menard hits the ring with a crowbar to drive FTR off.

Jon Moxley (AEW World Champion) vs Samoa Joe in a steel cage

They start slowly, with Joe laying in blows, staggering in Mox. Mox is busted open the first time he is tossed into the cage. Joe lays in a series of face washes in the corner. Mox takes a ton of punishment in the middle of the ring from Joe. Mox goes after Joe’s leg with a chop block and strikes.

The match has a slow, deliberate pace with one person totally dominating and then the other doing the same. Joe mounts a comeback on the small screen before Mox takes over right before we come back from the commercial. When we come back, Wheeler Yuta and Claudio Castagnoli have come to ringside, as have Willow Nightingale and Powerhouse Hobbs.

Mox is bleeding when we come back from the commercial, and Joe is covered in Mox’s blood.  They are throwing hands and Mox tries to climb the cage to escape, but Joe won’t allow it. “He looks like he got shot in the face with a bazooka,” Taz.

Joe grabs a crossface and Mox grabs the rope for the break. Joe sets for the muscle buster, but Mox is able to escape by raking his eyes and biting Joe. Mox keeps trying to go back to submission holds, but Joe keeps fighting him off. Joe gets the coquina lock. Claudio and Yuta look to climb the cage to interfere, and Willow and Hobbs take them out.

A man in a black hoodie slides the briefcase into the ring and Mox nails Joe in the head with it for the pin and the win.

Winner and still AEW World Champion.

We see the man is Gabe Kidd, from NJPW. He and Claudio take out Hobbs and then Claudio and Shafir take out Willow.

We then hear the music for the Young Bucks and they come to the ring, applauding.

This is followed by Kenny Omega, who takes out Yuta, then Claudio, but from the back Kazuchika Okada attacks Omega and rolls him into the ring.

The Bucks lower the cage again and we get a beat down of Omega, and Joe by the Death Riders, Kidd, and the Bucks.

Speedball Mike Bailey drives off Okada through the crowd.

Swerve Strickland is then on his way to the ring. He climbs the cage and then leaps onto everyone from the top. Matt is trying to raise the cage, and when it finally goes up, the Bucks and company leave.

Swerve grabs a mic and says he is back, even though he was nearly beaten to death the last time he was in Chicago. He fears nothing and is the most dangerous man in AEW. He then calls for an Anarchy in the Arena match for Double or Nothing.
