WWE will present Backlash this Saturday on Peacock and Netflix from St. Louis, Missouri with a 7:00 PM Eastern start time for the PPV. Here is our take on what will happen on Saturday.
WWE Undisputed Championship Match: John Cena vs. Randy Orton
Dave: While I would love to see Randy win here and put Cena out to pasture, I don't see it happening. HHH is committed to boring me with Cena's putrid heel act for the foreseeable future. Lucky me.
Mike: No way Cena loses here. I wonder if Cody interferes but it backfires.
Richard: In an ideal world, Randy Orton takes all of the anger about John Cena saying he would erase the Orton family from wrestling history and he takes advantage of the situation and connects with an RKO and boot to the head to win the title. I don't think Cena loses on Saturday. You need to build to at least one rematch with Cody. Will we see Cody appear on the show? I don't think we need it and save it for Raw or Smackdown next week. If Cody does show up, what if he costs Randy the match because he wants revenge on John for Cody not having the balls to hit John with the title belt?
Women's Intercontinental Championship Match: Lyra Valkyria vs. Becky Lynch
Dave: The right thing to do would be for Becky to put over the younger, on the rise talent. Will that happen? I have my doubts.
Mike: I suspect Lynch gets the belt here.
Richard: Lyra has done a decent job since winning the Intercontinental Title in January, but it is likely that it might end on Saturday. I have not been a fan of Becky's promos and it doesn't help that she does one every week. Becky is doing the same stuff in the ring, but with an attitude. I would love to see Lyra retain, but I think the Tiffany miracle at Mania is all we are getting when it comes to the returning veterans of the women's division. I think Becky will be talking on Monday about showing her daughter the Mother's Day present she gave herself and that is the IC title.
Men's United States Championship Match: Jacob Fatu vs. Drew Mcintyre vs. LA Knight vs. Damian Priest
Dave: You have heard this before, I hate to see the champ lose in mult-people matches and in this case, it would also be a huge mistake to take the belt off of Jacob. He's on fire. Don't blow that.
Mike: Jacob should retain, but I could see this as a way to finally reward Drew McIntyre.
Richard: I am not a fan of the multi-person match trope, especially when the champion didn't ask for it (which makes less sense). I don't see Fatu losing the title, but if he does, I do not want to be Solo Sikoa because it is his fault that it is a four way because Aldis wasn't content with 'When in doubt . . . Triple Threat it out'. I can see Drew hitting a Claymore on Priest or Knight and then Drew and the person he does not hit with the Claymore neutralize each other and then Fatu hits the double jump moonsault to retain. Solo survives for another night.
Men's Intercontinental Championship Match: Dominik Mysterio vs. Penta
Dave: Dom with the belt is fun and he should hold onto it here after some Judgment Day chicanery, maybe some that is not even meant to help him but does.
Mike: I know I will be in the minority here, but they should switch the belt. Penta's momentum has slowed, although his popularity has not. I don't think the loss would hurt Dom, especially if they play up Liv not being there as a weakness for Dom.
Richard: I think the match will not be determined by what happens between the two combatants, but from Dom's 'friend', Finn Balor. Finn has been cryptically plotting his exit from the group or his attempt to regain control of the faction from Liv and Dom. Dom will have help from the other members of Judgment Day. Penta will have another solid performance but the distractions from the people at ringside will be enough to help Dom retain. Maybe they run it back at Saturday Night's Main Event.
Pat McAfee vs. Gunther
Dave: Pat's promos have been great leading up to this but there is no world he should get in more than maybe 35% of the offense. Gunther wins here if it's straight up. But given they have gotten cute lately, I could see a distraction costing Gunther, giving Pat the win. I wouldn't go that way.
Mike: This should be about McAfee getting some hope spots in but GUNTHER smash and destroy at the end,
Richard: In an ideal world, this match should be three minutes of Gunther chopping and turning McAfee into a bloody pulp. But this is pro wrestling in 2025 so what should be a three or four minute match will go 10 to 14 minutes. McAfee will fight for the honor of Michael Cole and put in a valiant effort and get in some offense on Gunther. I can see the match end with McAfee in the middle of an offensive sequence but he gets too greedy and it backfires and Gunther chokes out Pat (who will pass out because no one of any importance taps out any more).
