4/27/25 Results from New Japan's Road to Wrestling Dontaku 2025 from Yamaguchi, Japan:
1 - Masatora Yasuda and Ryusuke Taguchi vs. Daiki Nagai and Katsuya Murashima
Taguchi forces Nagai to tap out to an ankle lock.
2 - Jado and El Phantasmo vs. Francesco Akira and Great O-Khan
Akira pins Jado after hitting a Fireball.
O-Khan holds both the NJPW TV Title and half of the IWGP Tag Team Titles. He does not need two belts. I would expect a rematch with El Phantasmo in the future and dropping the title back to the Headbanger.
3 - TAKA Michinoku, Taichi, Tomohiro Ishii, Shota Umino and Yuya Uemura vs. BUSHI, Hiromu Takahashi, Tetsuya Naito, Shingo Takagi and Yota Tsuji
Ishii was messing with Hiromu throughout the match.
Taichi forces BUSHI to tap out to Seitei Jijihou (Stretch Plum).
After the match, Ishii and Hiromu brawled and had to be separated.
BUSHI and Naito are doing the job on their way out of the company.
4 - Taiji Ishimori, Clark Conners, Drilla Moloney and Gabe Kidd vs. Yoshinobu Kanemaru, SHO, SANADA and Ren Narita
Both teams begin brawling immediately. EVIL and Yujiro interfere in the match and attack the War Dogs.
Match is ruled a no contest.
Gedo and David Finlay run to the ring.
5 - Gedo and David Finlay vs. Yujiro Takahashi and EVIL
Gabe Kidd grabs the mic and says that is a 6 on 6 match. They all immediately brawl into the crowds. Complete chaos. House of Torture corner Gedo in the ring and they beat him up. Togo hits a low blow on Gedo. War Dogs come to save Gedo. Yujiro tries to choke Gedo with a chain. Gedo kicks him in the groin and chokes Yujiro with the chain. EVIL has Finlay's shillelagh and blasts Gedo in the face.
Yujiro pins Gedo.
EVIL continues to hit War Dogs with the shillelagh on the way back to the locker room.
On May 3, both teams will face off in a Dog Pound Cage Match. The last time this match occurred Will Ospreay left the company, HENARE almost died and Alex Coughlin retired due to injury. I hope New Japan learns its lesson and they cannot be doing AEW style blood and guts type of matches. This build between House of Torture and War Dogs has been good. But there needs to be a resolution. Only one Bullet Club should remain. Or just kill the Bullet Club concept and have War Dogs and House of Torture be separate factions. This match should be the end of the feud.
6 - Master Wato, YOH, Boltin Oleg, Toru Yano and Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Kosei Fujita, Robbie Eagles, Hartley Jackson, Ryohei Oiwa and Zack Sabre Jr.
Oleg pins Jackson with a Kamikaze.
They are slowly building Oleg to get wins. He will be a major player in New Japan in the future.
7 - El Desperado, YOSHI-HASHI and Hirooki Goto vs. Jakob Austin Young, Templario and Callum Newman
Bishomon hit a Shoto on Young. YOSHI-HAHI pins Young.
In the past month, Callum Newman has been in the top spot with the IWGP Tag Title picture, and now in the World Title picture and he will face Hirooki Goto on May at Wrestling Dontaku. Is this too much too fast for Newman? New Japan threw Shota Umino into the World Title picture against Zack Sabre Jr. and the fans rejected Umino. Could this happen to Callum Newman? New Japan has been scrambling with the loss of Jeff Cobb and the pending departure of BUSHI and Tetsuya Naito. New Japan will have a chance to breathe during the Best of the Super Juniors. However, with G1 Climax coming this summer, New Japan needs to be smart with their booking of the World Title picture so Goto is facing credible challengers and not just the "flavor of the month".
